I have 2 similar TV Series that are crossing the media info and I can not figure out how to fix it. I have Star Trek - The Original Series from the 70s and Star Trek - Enterprise from the 2000’s. The problem comes up with Enterprise. It gives me all the right artwork, but the episode names, descriptions and original air dates are all The Original Series. All the file names are in a predictable pattern of Show name - Season # Episode # - Episode Name. Example “Star Trek - Enterprise S1 E16 - Shuttlepod One”, yet it is still reading it wrong.
Go grab a free program called The Renamer. Change it for TV shows and drag the folder in there. It’ll name them perfectly and Plex will add it correctly. I would have pulled all my hair out without this little gem of a program.
I can’t tell you how many times I have had the exact same issue as you. Even though I already had everything looking perfect Plex wouldn’t get the shows right. Yet, dropping them into The Renamer and letting it do it’s thing, even though it may be only a slight change, and all comes out perfect.
Change your naming and structure to EXACTLY Plex’s naming standards: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Based-TV-Shows
Like:
TV Shows <— The library points here
--------- Star Trek Enterprise <— This folder holds the season folders
------------------Season 01 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 01
-------------------------Star Trek Enterprise - s01e01e02 - Broken Bow.ext
-------------------------Star Trek Enterprise - s01e03 - Fight or Flight.ext
------------------------- …
-------------------------Star Trek Enterprise - s01e16 - Shuttlepod One
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 01
------------------Season 02 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 02
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 02
------------------Season 03 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 03
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 03
There are naming methods other than the above that work but this does work 99.9% of the time.
If you are going to use Plex it is best to use the proper naming conventions so Plex makes the best match possible. Trying to force Plex to use other naming methods is just asking for frustration.
After you rename your shows then perform the Plex Dance:
That should clear up your problems.
BTW: I use FileBot for renaming with the format string:
{n.replaceTrailingBrackets()} - {s00e00.lower()} - {t}
You can get more complicated but that works 99.5% of the time.

Folder Structure:
Star Trek Enterprise
Season (number)
File name format example:
Star Trek- Enterprise.S01E01.Broken Bow
Image below is how it displays.
It has the right artwork and show title.
It has the WRONG episode name, air date and description.
This across the entirety of Season 1-3.
That naming is still wrong! It may work now and it may work forever but it may fail tomorrow.
Get rid of the dash after Star Trek, remove the periods and add dashes in the correct places and you will have few problems. ex:
Star Trek Enterprise - S01E01 - Broken Bow.ext
I prefer s01e01 for readability but that is one of the few places where there are naming options in Plex.
If you want to use Plex then, particularly for TV shows, you need to name your media EXACTLY as Plex expects. other schemes may work but they are not guaranteed and may suddenly stop working.
You fight the great Plexosaurus at your own risk and it is simply not worth it when there are so many free or low cost tools that get the naming prefect almost every time.

If you were paying attention, you would see that my post was seconds after your post about how to rename the episodes. But before I changed anything, the information magically updated. That tells me someone did something. The only reason why my files were in the format of Star Trek- Enterprise.S01E01.Broken Bow is because of what kec789 posted 6 days ago. I have Star Trek DS9, Star Trek Voyager and Star Trek TNG. All of them are in the format of Star Trek - DS9 - S1 E20 - In the Hands of the Prophets, Star Trek - TNG S1 E26 - The Neutral Zone and Star Trek - Voyager S1 E16 - Learning Curve. So I don’t think your comment about the hyphen is valid. Someone did back on Plex’s side for it to all of a sudden correct the episode naming and other meta data.
You can do as you wish with the naming BUT the dash after “Star Trek” is NOT the correct way to name TV shows in Plex. Plex considers everything up to the first dash as the series name and everything between the first and second dash is the actual season/episode info and everything after the second dash is ignored.
However Plex does have some smarts and can handle some improper naming and that is why you are getting matches. It is also why that the improper naming may result in poor or no matches in the future. Plex does not guarantee to match anything that does not conform to their standards. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Based-TV-Shows
I do not really care if you name your files by the Plex standard or not but, if you want to use Plex there really is no good reason not to.
You guys just do something? All of a sudden it just corrected.
Then where the hell do I get support from actual Plex staff? Or do I pay for this software and service just to have other users support it?
I still dont see an answer as to how I talk to actual Plex staff. The piss poor support of ACTUAL PLEX STAFF is what I have a problem with 1st and foremost.

You need a real problem in order for the staff to get involved this was a basic naming issue that the users in the community worked to help provide you support. When is the last time Microsoft provided you direct support? PlexPass gives you access to the latest and greatest features/versions of the application not a direct line to their support.

When Plex becomes as large and unreplaceable as Microsoft, then they can ignore their customer base. The simple fact is that if the community cant respond to a thread, then someone from Plex should be answering. I work for a hardware manufacture that has excellent customer support and a very active forum. Thats what makes them #1 in their segment in North America. The community handles the majority of questions that come up in the forum, but the staff is regularly there to pick up on questions that cant be answered within less than a day. IT TOOK A WEEK AND ONLY BECAUSE I POSTED IN ANOTHER SECTION. That is unacceptable.
As for the basic naming issue, it wasn’t a naming issue. I still haven’t changed my naming but it all of a sudden fixed itself. And not temporarily. Its been working for days now. So SOMEONE CHANGED SOMETHING!!! Why cant someone just fess up so a proper answer to how this was fixed can be delivered.
