xbmc on apple tv ??

so apparently the dev's over at boxee got it installed, up and running on an apple tv

kewl, cheap, media center (yes i know .. underpowered for HD content) .. but as an xbox replacement for SD content .. you got to admit its got merit

This is pretty much old news really XBMC has been working on Apple TV since Atlantis Beta 1 was released but since we work close with boxee (davilla is a team xbmc member) they used it as well.
Although we have had some break throughs recently it making it run well which is probably why boxee anounced it as well

I did my AppleTV by ripping it apart - so this little util is a giant leap forward. I’d love it if Plex could hook up as a menu option so that I could have Plex on both my ATV in bedroom (which sits turned off most of the time) and the Mini, in the lounge. That would be fantastic.



I’ll see how well the patch works as soon as the image has finished being created :slight_smile:

ATV now running XBMC - I’ll post some updates on how well it works as soon as I’ve watched a few things over it.

Just an FYI a new version of XBMC coming out real soon (hopefully under 2 days) should be better we have done a few things to make ATV installs work better.

So any tests your doing with the current “might” be better with the next

It did after all gets lots of good feedback :slight_smile:



P.S probably wouldn’t hurt to take this discussion to the the xbmc.org forums instead of posting more unreleated to plex stuff here

Well I’ve been using XBMC on the ATV for a few days now and for SD movie content it’s pretty solid. I haven’t used library features or anything like that yet and no music playback either. But then for me this machine is only lightly used. I generally use Plex on Mini hooked up either the big tv or HD projector :slight_smile:
