Sadly, been playing with the Xbox one app and it's terrible. Very rough around the edges. First, it's very un-finished. It sometimes doesn't connect to the server properly, it has to transcode almost everything since the xbox one has yet to publically deploy mkv I assume, and the tv shows section doesn't work. At all. Seriously it's broken, no info, no links to episodes for shows, no nothing. If you've been watching on another source and then switch to xbox there may be a link from that, but that's it. There's been numerous times when the app goes black, and nothing happens. The only way to fix it is to unplug your xbox.
Actually they don't charge for this, you pay for Plexpass which gives you access to many other things including the xbox one app. Also since you seem new here you need to understand that as a plexpass feature we get access to many things that others don't get with the free app, however along with that we are usually on the bleeding edge of some of the new features for plex so not all the bugs are worked out at that point.
Call it what you want how you want, but they charge for the app for first access, then again later if you don't want plexpass. Either way, I expected at least a usable piece of software. I wouldn't even call this a beta, it's more like an alpha.
Don't get me wrong, overall I'm very impressed with the setup on other platforms, but this software needs multiple updates and I just hope they are actually provided as xbox software doesn't have the best reputation for getting any.
I've been using it with my Xbox One and had none of the issues you've been having. I sampled videos from all around my library and didn't have any that failed to play. So obviously what you've been seeing is not happening to everyone. Here's a wild idea since your basically in the test group with your plex pass, report the bug in the proper plex pass section (under the Xbox One heading) in a thread so they know whats going on and can possibly help you. Don't hide your grip thread in the other section where the developers don't look (because the stuff here is assumed to not be there software).
You may be better off posting constructive feedback there instead of complaining for the sake of complaining.
Also worth noting: Plex Pass has far wider implications than the Xbox One app... so just because you paid for it solely for the Xbox One app, doesn't mean that equates to Plex charging for access to the app. To suggest that would be to completely discount all the great added features from having a Plex Pass subscription (see more here: https://plex.tv/subscription/about).
I've been testing it and it works pretty well. I have no idea what the OP is going on about. Also it's a v1 release so not all features are available, but its still far better then other media options available on the xbone or ps4
Had no issues so far. It's pretty basic, but I've no complaints, given it came out 2 days ago. Everything has played fine so far. I'll be officially happy once the Xbox One supports mkv's and Plex utilizes that feature!

Did you know that Xbox One get new features added each months that brings very good stuffs such as new audio and video codecs, multi tasking to play games and do a video call with Skype side by side and other very good stuffs that no other consoles can do. If you read the news you will see that people are very happy about these regular improvements
As I explained in other forum I’m very happy with this first version and we all know that some features are missing but they already mentioned that they are working on it. Regarding codec we are waiting for MKV and Microsoft said it will be available before the end of the year so just be patient and remember that PS4 does not even read mp3
Since all of my movies are in a MP4 container (H.264 encoded), I have not seen any transcoding issues like the OP has stated. HOWEVER, I am experiencing the exact same issue with the TV Shows section (going to post it in the other forum as well). The issue seems to be related to indexing the media if you have a large TV show library, which I do.
For those who are not experiencing the problem, the issue happens when you go to your TV show section and either click on any Show from all BUT ONE section. In the effected sections (Browse All, for example), when you click on a show, down at the bottom where it should be showing you the seasons, it shows what appears to be 3 small square "G" icons (I haven't looked hard enough to see if it's a G or just small squares, but it shows 3 of them). None of the remaining content loads. If you click on the "Play" button to play the entire show (starting from the first season, episode 1, etc), you get a blank screen that never times out. You can exit the app, etc., but when you go back to the app, it continues to show a black screen. The only way to get the app to reset is to perform a reboot of the XBO (that is, hold down the power button until it shuts off completely and then power it back up). The interesting thing is that after rebooting my XBO and my Plex server several times trying to figure out what was going on, it actually randomly started working! It worked, as expected, UNTIL, I fixed a lot of my TV show tags (I noticed that several of my older shows were not showing the full episode counts, a fault of my older MP4 tagging program not properly tagging the videos). When I did that, those shows immediately showed up in my plex apps properly... but on my XBO, when I went back to the TV show section, it again started doing the exact same issue with the 3 small "G" icons.
The only section that I have found that does not appear to have this issue is the "Start Playing" section of the TV Show portion. When you go there and click on the Show, it seems to consistently show the seasons at the bottom as well as the info. So, whatever the issue is, it is definitely UI based and not anything with actual playback.
First question I would ask is if you are using the server version associated with the plex client?
I am not experiencing the problems you are having, although there are a few bugs, but nothing along the lines of show stopping. As far as needing to unplug your xbox and plug it back in, I would be more inclined to think that your xbox has a fault, or that you don't know how to end a running program on the xbox (for the record, highlight the running program in the main view on the dash and then press start and navigate to "quit")

As far as an issue with the XBO as it relates to quitting the application, no, no issue there either. Yes, I do know how to close (and force close) an application running on the XBO. Unfortunately, the issue is that when it enters into the spin and you quit the application. Turning the application back on would result in it going back to the spinning icon. The only way to get it to work again would be to restart the XBO.
I think that there may have been an update to the XBO app recently, however, as I have noticed that the last time I had this happened two nights ago, rather than it sitting on the spinning icon screen, it errored out almost immediately, which allowed for me to quit it and, when restarting it, it relaunched properly. So, I think that it was an actual bug. Still have the TV show issue though.
I have seen many complaints about not been able to play mkv files or 1080p content. I have been able to do both since day one. Yes there are a bunch of features missing and the app acts up at times, but I consider it a pretty darn good beta release.
Tv shows work fine for me, 120 different shows with thousands of episodes and havnt had any issues so far. MKV are a bit hit and miss but ive found as long as the pc my server is on is doing nothing else at the time I can watch them.
Far from perfect but tons better than Yamj that I used to use
As I've said in a previous thanks thread, I understand that people want all the features immediately, but I'm really grateful that they decided to release it earlier with fewer features. So far the basics work great for me, I can watch TV and Movies, and even though most are transcoded, it is incredibly convenient to have it on the xbox one (which is currently my main media device), so I'm extremely pleased with this release. I'm sure there will be a lot of updates in the future to add additional features, and fix various problems, but that is why they made this a plex pass release only, to identify any potential issues and get them resolved before a general public release.

What a stinker, and they CHARGE for this?
Be careful dude. You are going to get flamed by certain folks.
Not sure if that comment was needed. You’ve been through this whole ‘flamed’ discussion in other places and not sure why you feel the need to bring it up again.

That's one way to stir the pot.
In the quote, if not for the last line, there were some real gripes that have been reported by other people. Not all of what is listed is Plex's fault, MS has not released MKV to third party apps yet. I left your last thread because you obviously couldn't be reasoned with and only wanted to see things your way, that is your perrogative, but if all you want to do is stir up the forum then why not just bow out. There is a real difference between listing your problems so they are seen and fixed and doing it in a way to agitate the masses and make things out to be larger than they appear.
I'm sure you'll say I'm "flaming" you, but I'm trying very hard to be nice. It's just irritating to see someone who says they are a software developer look at a peice of software that is technically still in what I'd consider beta release (plexpass only) and expect everything to be perfect (especially demanding that features that were never promised or considered be there at this time).
My rant has ended, I'll see myself out of this thread.
