Xbox One Buffering For Several Minutes Before Playing

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: Xbox One — 2.23.1.70

Before playing videos, specifically movies, Plex will buffer the entire film for several minutes before playback. Once playback starts there is no issue thereafter. Once the film is switched off and then I attempt to re-enter the film again takes several minutes to buffer.

Issue does not occur with TV-Shows, Only the Movies Library.

Doubt it’s holding the whole film in that buffer. Normally buffering is to hold part of a video in case you can’t download as fast as you’re playing later on (then it hopefully catches up, or switches to a lower bitrate).

Have you looked on the server to see if it’s transcoding? I’d assume that process might take a bit on NAS or lower powered hardware.

Is this a local network play or across the internet from a remote server? I have no idea how to check local Xbox bandwidth use from the Xbox, but that could be a handy verification all should be working well (otherwise fix the network).

I’ve read recently there is at least one audio codec that seems to be bugged on the Xbox that Plex is waiting for Microsoft to fix. If you can use “bitstream” output on the Xbox I’d guess you’ll avoid that issue (your sound output device must support whatever formats then).

I’d compare the formats (codecs) and bitrate/resolution of your TV vs. Movie files. Format can make a big difference in playback results.

Hello,
For the most part the issue is resolving. After a bunch of different change attempts I believe I had a bad Windows Build that contained the known network bug.

But Thank You for the advice, especially on the Audio Codec!
