Xbox ONE Client in works

Will it be possible to have Plex on the new Xbox ONE?

It is being advertized as another set top box so I would figure this should be a must...

Good lord it was JUST ANNOUNCED today!  :P

I realize that. I also know that xbox has reached out to certain companies for material to be incorporated into it... Microsoft wants the new XboxONE to be your only set top box and they are going more Windows8 and will probably add apps and different downloads.

Supposedly it runs on x86 windows structure... So.... It might be easier than some other clients to create for...

;) just trying to get the ball rolling.

I appreciate you asking this, yes it is too soon but it would be awesome to even know if it would be possible. Though MSFT didn't seem to mention anything about app development.

The Xbox One runs the same Windows kernel as regular Windows 8, so it might very well be possible to use the existing Plex app for Windows 8. Or at least just recompile the same code to an Xbox app.

And they didn't mention anything about supported Codecs an HD Audio (passthrough). Everything looked quite the same as on XBOX 360: Payed Conent only! I have no Problem with payed Content, but i would also like to see Plex transcoding/Streaming all my Video Files to the xbox one Client.

Xbox One runs a cut down version of Windows 8 which is sligthly different than the desktop version.

You cant run any Windows 8 apps on this version because those apps will need to have support for voice control and Kinect.

This doesnt mean the current app would have to be rewritten from scratch but it would have to be partially rewritten to include Kinect and Voice control.

Microsoft have created special tools to make it easy for Dev's to add those required Kinect motion control and voice control features without having to change too much of their existing app.

Ah, okay, I was not aware of the voice/Kinect requirements. But it should still should still be relatively easy to make the existing client work. Have they set a date on when they'll release tools for the devs to start making apps?

Microsoft announced that the Xbox One will have Wifi direct support. (A bit like airplay) so if that was incorporated into ios and android plex apps then you could play your plex stuff on the Xbox one…

I would love for the X1 to have an app ecosystem.  With the background being W8, it seems like MS could turn that switch on if they chose to which would be smart in so many ways.  Heres hoping their angle to take over the living room doesnt mean it will be solely in their vision.

An X1 app with kinect support would put any other media player to shame.

At the very worst, Smartglass should be a way to get out Plex Media on the Xbox One

+1 for Plex on the Xbox One. I just ordered a new NAS and would love to use Plex with the new Xbox One.
