In the latest and long awaited Plex for Xbox One update it seems that any attempts to “Browse” videos from a “Personal Media Library” such as home videos, downloaded music videos etc… results in a display of movie poster size thumbnails w/o filenames appearing at the bottom of the thumbnail. In the same library using “Recently Added > …” to view same videos results in an expected video (wider) thumbnail with filename at bottom of each tile.
With the previous Plex for Xbox One release I’ve enjoyed endless hours of entertainment with my kids browsing and watching home movies and music videos from multiple “Personal Media Libraries” with 1,000s of media files. Using “Browse” and “Jump To Letter” followed by some quick video thumbnail scrolling and filename reading (below each tile) we can typically locate the desired videos fairly quickly. With the latest Plex for Xbox One release this is no longer possible since the video thumbnails along with filenames have been replaced with a movie poster size thumbnail with no filenames (below the tile).
As a long time PlexPass Lifetime member I’m hopeful the above described UX change is simply a functional regression that can be corrected by the awesome Plex development team in the next Plex for Xbox One update.
I have never felt unhappy with any plex update. I have been using plex since 2010…
Today however, after my xbox one updated the plex app… i can’t view anything from my personal media library. where I store home videos of my groups practices etc. i was surprised when i went to that section that I can not access individual videos any more. i hope this gets fixed. been using plex on my xbox one recently and enjoying it.

Let me see if I can get some word from the devs on this.
I cannot play any videos since the update to the Xbox One app. Videos that play immediately on iOS, Chromecast, and Web just give a black screen on xbox. I’ve tried reinstalling, updating my library, “analyzing” my library, but these efforts resulted in no effect. Help?

Could you upload some logs when attempting to play something?

Got a hold of one of the devs and they had already noted that regression. They will be looking for a solution for an upcoming update.
Started Plex for XBox One tonight, indicated it needed an update and I thought wonderful, maybe the issue I reported at the top of this thread had been fixed. While I found some useful improvements in the update I unfortunately can confirm this issue has not been fixed. Is there a defect number for this that can somehow be tracked to know when the actual fix is to be expected?
@jbielefeld Hi there. Sorry to hear you’re having issues with the update, could you possibly upload a screenshot of what you’re seeing so I can understand the problem better?

Absolutely, not a problem and thank you for your help. So in my original report I stated…
…so the following image from the current (and last) release attempting to “Browse” videos showing no filenames and incorrectly using movie poster aspect ratio thumbnails…
…but when using “…” for “Recently Added” section the music videos correctly show the filenames and use the wider aspect ratio thumbnails such as shown here.
Again this regression was introduced in the Xbox One for Plex update back in July of this year.
Think of the problem like this. Movie poster thumbnails w/o files are good for movies where you have actual movie posters to identify what you are browsing through. Attempting to “Browse” through a “Personal Media Library” of music videos is next to impossible when you cannot see the filenames under each thumbnail and the thumbnails themselves are narrow images.
I hope this has helped and the issue can be quickly resolved.
@jbielefeld yes the screenshots were very helpful, thanks. We’re going to indeed make changes around this area, but I can’t promise whether they’ll make it into the next release or after.
…thank you @moussa.uk the confirmation is appreciated. I look forward seeing this issue resolved along with any other planned “Personal Media Library” user interface improvements. Keep up the great work Plex team.
