Been struggling with playing 4K to my devices. My Xbox one S freezes every 8 seconds, I ran optimize and it freezes every 25 seconds. I have 2 other Samsung TVs that do the same. I have a Sony XBR that plays it fine. I try to connect a EXT harddrive directly to my xbox and plex does not seem to have a way to play files this way like Xbox Media player.
_Why would it play on the Sony TV fine but not the other devices?
Can you play to plex from a EXT HD via plex (VLC crashes)_
Any suggestions to play my 4K files?
HARDWARE
Mac Mini 2011 (2.3 i5, 8GB Ram) Plex Server only running application and 53% memory is free
EXT 2TB HD Connected to Mac sharing library
Apple Airport Extreme running on 5GHZ
85% Signal quality to Xbox One S
There are a number of reasons why 4K content would struggle. Without seeing your Server logs we can’t really say what is happening at all. If VLC is crashing trying to play the file that doesn’t very promising though.
Plex for Xbox does not provide local playback as it is a client for the server. Without the server the Xbox One app does not see any media. If you post your Plex Media Server.logs we can look at what the Xbox One is requesting and what the server is doing during playback.
This support article explains how to get the server logs: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417
Typcally, the best thing to do for fresh logs is to restart the Plex Media Server, enable logging to the server from the Plex for Xbox One app, and then attempt to playback one of the files giving you issues. After that gather the logs from the zip file and upload them here. With those we can see what is happening and provide a much better response.
