@Moussa said: @mbarylski The app goes through a lot of testing before release, though on occasions some bugs (like the play/pause remote issue) will slip through unfortunately. Regarding the buffering issues some users are experiencing (and I have to stress that this is only some users) those issues are much more difficult to test for. As you can imagine our users are running servers on an infinite possible combinations of hardware, with widely different network setups and conditions, playing media files that are all unique in a million possible ways, with their own differences and quirks. To sum up it’s difficult to catch every issue in advance, or even reproduce the issue you’re experiencing. I can only ask for patience while we track down any issues and ask you to help us out by providing setup information, media information, and server logs.
Really appreciate the response and explanation. Understanding that there are a wide variety of setups, it seems it’s time to implement a Plex Pass release channel. Or Alpha, Beta, Omega like the Xbox. A lot of us are using this as the primary media player/DVR and IMHO are expecting TiVo like reliability. Plex is nowhere near TiVo like reliability, and probably never will be, but it can get a lot closer. A user test channel would certainly help. I stopped downloading the Plex Pass server updates more than a year ago after an update caused a forced reboot every hour. Being in the public release has saved me a lot of headaches. It would be nice if something similar could be implemented for the Xbox app so bugs can get worked out before those of us using Plex as a primary media player don’t have to deal with as many bugs. What do you think? Any chance a Plex Pass update channel can be added for the Xbox One app before a public release?
As for the buffering issue, I’ll send logs tonight.
The most frustrating thing here is that everything worked properly before the October update. It’s done nothing but gotten worse since.
I understand you can’t ‘roll back’ to that version.
We also have been told that Plex is just a wrapper for the built-in media player.
Why is it then that everything works extremely well when I use the Media Player, but is frustrating and painful with Plex? Why has Plex continued to degrade when the Media Player has been stable?
Of course you can’t test for every possible permutation of hardware, but basic features like play\pause should never even have been touched.
I think the most frustrating thing is that there’s no way on the Xbox to select a specific version to run, or to disable updates for specific apps, but that’s something Microsoft has to address. if I had a choice, I’d still be running the last version from before the UI changes – It worked perfectly for me.
Maybe @Moussa can find a way to make that available as “plex client classic” or something.
@Moussa Here are my log files. 2 videos that I used for a test were Saturday Night Live and Critic’s Choice Awards. Both are Plex DVR recordings. Saturday Night Live is an older recording and that one seemed to be worse than Critic’s Choice Awards which I just recorded tonight.
@Moussa the buffering problem has been present for most builds in this new app and can always be fixed by turning off direct play and direct stream! Seems to me these are the to best places to start to find the problem, DP @ DS both worked perfect on the old app surely it’s possible to compare the code to see if anything pops out?
Also a “fix” that’s not actually been fixed is that when switching users it actually doesn’t switch as the on deck and available librarys will actually be from the last user not the one switched to

Otherwise the updates are much welcomed.
Turning off Direct Play and Direct Stream used to work for me too, but with the most recent update, I get buffering even when forcing transcoding.

Yeah after I posted this and went to bed, plex started Buffering within 5 mins of starting the Video
I was thrilled to see a new update in the hope that it fixed the Direct Play issues, especially as I could not force transcode of 4k content to get around it; the update did fix that, though it seems another issue has emerged.
The weird thing is that after buffering, the picture suddenly has super high gamma until I exit and resume the video as well.
I’ve reproduced the issue a few times for the server logs attached.
It seems there are more users having issues with buffering then Plex realizes. @Moussa asked for log files to help the devs isolate the issue. If everyone could upload their log files that might help them fix the issue quicker. Just make sure to enable logs under privacy on the Xbox One, and enable it on the server as well. Then go to your logs folder and drag them over to your post. I posted my Transcoder, Media Scanner, and Media Server logs. Not sure they need all of those, but posted them anyways.
I have update 2.1.2.70 and the play button on my logitech remote works (as does “xbox play”) and this toggles play/pause however the pause button and saying “xbox pause” doesnt.
I also get the buffering message people are complaining about. Mkvs are slower however tv recorded from my tuner is a lot better even with the buffering text in the middle. However because of the buffering message i cant hold left/right to move forward a bit faster.
With autoplay disabled, after an episode of something finishes, if you let it go to the screensaver then you can’t actually get back to the screen and have to kill and start the app. I’m getting failures saying I need to reset Plex 10-15% of the time when I try and start it after killing it, kill it again and start and it’s usually ok until the next time it goes to screensaver.
I appreciate things have to move on, but my experience was better with the original XB1 app.
I use the Nvidia Shield TV with the PLEX media server software and client.
I own the XBOX one x and is there a chance that the PLEX media server software also would be added for the XBOX one x/s?
Thank you for all the great stuff that you guys are doing!
Ok I seem to have partly solved the Buffering on my server, I have had to change the “Transcoder default throttle buffer” to 1800 seconds (yes 1800 that’s 30 mins ) and also changed the preset from “Very fast” to “Medium” I have also enabled Hardware Transcoding (My GPU doesn’t like the heat but its fixed the buffering for now)

If you choose a specific file and choose the “…” option, there you can choose which version to play.
Because your problems will go away. Every… Single… One… Do it.
Considering everything worked fine a mere 3 months ago, I hardly find it acceptable to buy and add another device to my system to ‘get around’ the problems Plex has introduced themselves.
Also, what will you do when this abomination of an app hits the Shield? Suggest we all go buy some other device?

Another problem that seems to be apparent in this update is that whilst you are playing a long album or music playlist with no interactions from the remote control the Xbox ONE shuts itself down as it thinks the console has experienced a period of inactivity.
This has happened twice so far - I’ll try and time how long it is between a fresh start and an automatic shutdown. I’ve not tried this with any video streams yet so I can’t say if this is just related to audio playback.
I have buffering issues too. Seems like every x265 movie with forced subtitles (all kinds vob, srt, ect). It should work with direct play as it does with the old app.
