Xbox one X buffers on 1080p videos but not on 4K videos

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402
Player Version#: 2.42.1.70
My setup:
xbox one x as a player.
Raspberry pi 4 as a server.
Gsuite as storage mounted with rclone.
Direct play only.

  • I can play 4k hevc videos without any problem no matter the size
  • I can’t play 3 minutes of 1080p h.264 videos without buffering constantly.
  • On my samsung tv with plex app I can play both without buffering a second.

If I mount my gdrive with the --vfs-cache-mode writes full option the 1080p video plays without problem but only because the whole movie is dowloaded not streamed. And it takes a really long time to download even a 1gig south park episode.

Any suggestions for the xbox app?

I don’t watch 4k hevc but definitely have the same issue with 1080p content on my xbox. Sadly not much of an update from Plex yet.

MY issue is on 4k HDR videos, they will all endlessly buffer after 5 tpo 20 mins of playback
