I plug in my Chromecast to the Xbox One’s HDMI. Then use free iOS app (or paid Android app). I have no use for Plex Pass otherwise. Would consider it for lifetime, but $150 is too much and I narrowly missed out on $75 last year. Sync is the only semi-useful feature for me, but it doesn’t include cloud storage, I don’t have enough space on my Dropbox, and OneDrive isn’t supported. Given Crashplan and Backblaze offer unlimited backup storage for $5/mo, and LastPass is $1/mo, Plex Pass is too expensive imho. I’d pay $1-2/mo, given all I want is Xbox One client access. But I’ll just wait and check periodically.
The Apple TV release had me hopeful, but I guess the only reason they did that was because someone else would fill the void if they didn’t. Apple users are more apt to pay a lot for apps/services, and they probably wanted to get in on that early. There’s no real competition on Xbox, so they’re taking advantage of that.

I just purchased an XBox One and imagine my dismay to find that the client is only available via PlexPass. I would like to see Plex offer an option to buy the “beta” client (w/updates) for those who would like to not wait for it to come out of “PlexPass” phase.
While I can appreciate not wanting to give out timelines, spending $40 for a year of plexpass with no guarantee that the Xbox One client will even be “completed” in that time is a tough sell. Especially when I don’t need all the other goodies that PlexPass gives you. I have a home NAS, I stream media from it locally and on the road. That is pretty much all I need.
Hey I just bought my Xbox one this Black Friday and I have Plex Pass and still can’t get pass the sign in and I got the log in info right so why can’t I sign in?

According to the forums you do not have Plax Pass. Have you purchased the subscription?
Is the Xbox One Plex app working? I launched it and it keeps spinning. I have been using it for months and have a Plex pass. Wont even get to the login screen or anything

mine is doing the same thing… started yesterday. my rokus and vizio tvs are not having an issue.
Short answer: There is a permission issue on the Xbox OS that is preventing the app from reading the user settings and halting the loading process so the app is unable to full start. This does not affect all users and the developers are unable to identify what is causing it to happen to some users.
Wow I can’t believe its not released yet! I signed up to plex pass when plex first came out on Xbox one but gave up and just used my mac mini as the client. I bought a surface 3 on black Friday to replace my mac mini and was hoping to go back to having my xboxone doing everything but I guess not. They don’t want to charge people for a unstable program yet they clearly are by forcing people to purchase the pass to use it.
The built in media player isn’t the same as it doesn’t support DTS audio.

Why can’t you? How many other clients for home media servers have you seen released on the Xbox One?

The media player that Plex uses is the same media player that the Xbox One DLNA client uses. The difference is that Microsoft has not exposed the DTS decoder to 3rd Party applications (Among other things).
Awesome. I just bit the bullet and signed up for Plex Pass due to all the bugginess of Plex on Chromecast lately (constant stuttering). Only to find out it doesn’t even work?! What a joke!
I’m glad I bought the monthly. Was planning on getting lifetime if it worked well on Xbox One, but now I’ll just buy an Apple TV and go back to free version.
