I think I know the answer to this based on my research but it blows my mind so I want to make sure I don’t have a configuration issue.
I got an.HD homerun prime with a cablecard a few days ago and added it to my Plex server. The functionality is amazing. I love it.
I noticed though that everything I watch and record is 720p. I have seen posts that say that it is just Comcast’s signal. I guess they upscale the feed at the box and have the box tell the tv that it is 1080p. Is this true?
I don’t have great eyes and I don’t usually worry too much about quality but even to me a 720p video on a 65 inch 4K TV looks pretty bad.

I can’t imagine it would look any worse than if it was being upscaled by your cable box. You can double check that when you’re watching a channel it is direct playing and not being transcoded by PMS.
I am not denying the possibilty that it could all be in my head. I see that 720p and I get nervous. .
I’ll play around and compare the direct play on the homerun prime vs through Plex. I suspect it will be the same. It is probably Comcast’s feed. I don’t really mind that much as long as I did not configure anything wrong.
For you Comcast customers, they’re also starting to do this to some/all of the local networks. Something to be aware of, as you consider antenna options.
Comcast is also squeezing the bit rate too much, and their 720p H264 transport stream (at 3-4 mbps) looks noticeably worse than the old 1080i MPEG2 stream (at 15+ mbps). They could have given the stream a bit more wiggle room, like 6 mbps, but nope.
