Is there any plans in the near future to added access to my media server to the Plex app on Xfinity’s Flex box?
I started with Plex at the beginning due to the wanting a media server. That being Plex’s claim to fame all those years ago. Have had Plex Pass forever (yearly subscription). I recently got a Flex TV from Xfinity and quickly realized that my media server was not welcomed.
I can honestly say I have never used the steaming channels offered via Plex. I just wanted my media server content and that worked for me.
Is Plex moving away from there roots by not offering access to the media server?
If there is no plan on having the Plex app access my media on the Flex TV box I am not seeing the advantage of renewing my subscription. This also means that a few friends and four family members will also have little reason to continue a subscription ( I was the media hub for them).
I hope this changes by November or at least have a solution on the horizon before November when my subscription is to renew otherwise this relationship that has been many years in the making will unfortunately come to an end.

From my own perspective, I just packed up my Flex box in a drawer, and defer to my Apple TVs, Roku, Amazon FireTV, and other “smart” devices (Samsung TVs). Plex App works as expected (mostly) on all of those other devices, and (most importantly) does not remove user-content options (i.e., Plex Media Server access).
Pretty certain I’m in the other camp where I would defer my Comcast/Xfinity subscriptions over anything to do with Plex, rather than defer my Plex subscription. But that is (again) just from my own perspective…
Just IMHO, the whole deal with Comcast/Xfinity and Plex seems ill-conceived from the beginning, since Plex’s core-value is in the Media Server & user-content/access component. Let me strain an analogy: It is sort of like a buggy-whip vendor making a deal with an Automobile manufacturer, but not being allowed to include any horses. Without horses we don’t need a buggy-whip… Without Plex Media Server content-access, we don’t need Plex. So, really “Why”?? What is the point?
Anyway, just my 2 cents… Like my Mother always said…“You may not be the dumbest guys in the world, but you better hope he doesn’t die”. lol.
