XPlay (WebOS)

  1. Video content (frames) can not be stretched to full screen (at least on last TV firmwares I have) … video content (frames) can not be moved out of screen borders. System (HTML) video player keeps aspect ratio own way and I can not affect to it. “Black bars” can not be removed

In my case, my videos don’t have “black bars”, in my case my videos are 720p and the app doesn’t seem to be capable of escalate it to 1080p. It maintains original resolution. I’ve tried these videos in a Samsung tv(official app) and works perfectly

@bublikoff

I don’t know whats wrong but suddenly all of my media with external subtitles have stopped showing the subtitle…tested with 2014 WebOS and 2017 OLED, strange as it worked before, now only built in subs work but I really need the external to work again…do you know why this suddenly happened? something with PMS? thanks

EDIT: seems to be solved since I removed and added the libraries again, so it was something with PMS

I have a particular 4K MKV HEVC remux w/ TrueHD 7.1 audio where the TV will not play the audio at all. I’ve played 20+ other 4K MKV remuxes with the same type of audio format and have no issues with those. I tried using the built-in LG Photos & Videos app and it has same behavior (not surprising). The same file plays on my Nvidia Shield with audio no problems. How can I figure out what the problem is with this particular file?

I have tried using MediaInfo to view information about the audio track and comparing it to other known-good files that have same audio format and I don’t see any differences other than the non-working file was written with ‘mkvmerge v15.0.0’ which uses writing library ‘libmatroska v1.4.5’ while all of the working files were written with ‘mkvmerge v16.0.0’ or later which all use writing library ‘libmatroska v1.4.8’. I don’t know enough to know whether that is a meaningful difference or not.

Is there any kind of log from the TV that I can view to see if it throws an error message relating to the audio? Or any other ideas?

Great program works very well. The only thing missing now is Atmos and DTS:X over HDMI on the LG 2017 model. Netflix already works with Atmos. After that it will be perfection.

my av receiver pioneer vsx-930 is reporting batman v superman is running in dolby atoms ?? using xplay with a LG 55c7

Any chance of getting live subtitle sync offset? Sometimes the best subtitle SubZero can find is slightly off, and it would be perfect if I just could adjust the timing with 100-1000 msec while watching the movie. (GF doesn’t want to watch movies without subs…)

I know how to adjust subtitles with 3rd party tools, but I want to be able to do it “on the fly”, like how Kodi and VLC does.

Please?

Oh? Thats strange. I have to double check it then. On my Marantz it says Dolby DD + Neural: X. Using Netflix it automatically switches to Atmos.

Use the program mediainfo to check the audio in your files has a atoms track

Still doesn’t work after fiddling with the settings for an hour, I got my TV only recently so it is possible I am missing some setting hidden somewhere. I get Atmos using my PC on the same video file using Plex. Also with Kodi using DSplayer but Xplay doesn’t work for me. I tried switching through the various modes during playback but Atmos isn’t on the list. With Netflix I also get Atmos through ARC so its unlikely its the HDMI or receiver.

Try this:
I changed the audio options for ARC/Optical and i enable SIMPLINK and i changed PCM for Automatic.
Worked for me.

Its better to have photo of issue for better judgments of the nature of problem.
Its not fully correct to compare it official app or native apps from LG. As I already told there can be “good” developers and “not so good” … what I mean … some developers have more information for developing apps for webOS from LG and have access for closed API. The situation with embedded subtitles API is eloquently showing that some functionality is hidden from some developers … at least I can only guess about situation with closed (hidden) API and ordinary developers can not get 100% power from webOS … unfortunately.

Just to be clear … Hope I’ll not miss important information …
2) The app almost have no levers of influence to system (HTML ) video player. The app can work with embedded subtitles BUT with limited functionality. Embedded subtitles track can be selected by two symbols language code (ISO 6391). When two subtitles tracks have the same language code the second track must be transcoded to be showed. LG even hides API that can be used to work with embedded subtitles. LG even deleted the app from LG store after Ive tried to ask some extra details on public dev forum on LG website. Fortunately the app was returned to the store without any conditions from LG Inc. But subtitles API documentation was removed from developers documentation. Embedded subtitles color, position … size can not be controlled … at least in direct play mode.

So as I understand it you don’t have much control over embedded subtitles
Yep … lets say “I can only ask embedded video player to show or not to show subtitles”. The app even dont have idea was it showed or not. It’s a kind of mystery for app … “Lets cross fingers it was showed correctly” )))

but I thought I should ask anyway.
When I try to play a 4K HDR movie, no embedded subtitles work. I can enable them but they never show up. They do not require transcoding, at least according to xplay which happily plays HDR movies with subtitles enabled without transcoding, it’s just that they do not show at all. If I enable external subtitles with HDR it does work.
In case you can share any sample I can test it in my dev environments for better understanding your situation with embedded subs.
External subs processed by the app itself not by video player

Do you have any idea if this could be fixed or is it simply all hidden away from you developers?
For the moment information about working with embedded subs are hidden. And I only can work with info about it that I got in deep past.

I would like to buy the XPlay app and I would also donate a bit for your efforts, but do you think you can fix the bug in a timely manner?

Or do not you have the opportunity? Because you write “The app does not have idea how TV wants to handle audio stream.”
Please excuse my bad English. I am not a native speaker too.

As I already wrote upper … the app does not have controls in its hands. For eg we have video file with Dolby Atmos 7.1. As the app uses embedable (system) video player which handles handles its video and audio decoding using system media codecs and the app can not add own for eg (at least its valid for HTML based apps and probably a kind of native webOS apps can … who knows). And after system video player decoded audio content it sends it to a kind of system layer which handles audio streams which decides how to play it … in bulletin speakers or external audio system. Its a bit different layer and not connected with apps. As we all know official app from Plex always uses transcoding … it repacks audio stream for supported by TV format that its way it has less issues with audio output and etc … You can try to keep video size original… boots audio and play with Plex client profiles to tune audio stream

Checkout “HTML TV App.xml” to tune transcoding mode

Is there no way to get track off when the app is updated? Meaby on the website would be nice

Will “Similar Movies” to the one you’re viewing be added at some stage?
I miss that from Plex.
Also movies with the same actors as the current movie.

And will there be any change to the Dashboard to show more than “On Deck” and “Just Added”

And finally (Im not sure this is even in Plex) but is there a way to recommend movies that you don’t have (after the software looks at what you do have)?

Many thanks
P

Hi guys,

I downloaded XPlay for my C7, and for the most part it works great. I’m able to stream from my PC in 4K with HDR without encoding. However, I see the occasional static/anomaly while watching a movie. Strangely, it seems to happen most often during camera cuts/scene changes, however that may just be coincidental.

Anyone else experiencing similar errors? I’m streaming from a 5400 RPM HDD. Is 5400 RPM capable of handling the bitrate of 4K/HDR?

I have a c7 cant say ive noticed any artifacting other than the artifacts you get when you use truemotion

any chance of getting a video of it happening

Love the app but the audio issue with 7.1 atmos 4k HDR files really sucks - hope you can find a workaround

Just wanted to say thanks to bublikoff for Xplay - works great for me so far.

In the LG Content Store it shows “Updated 03/02/2017, Version 1.2.8” - is this really the latest?

Check version in the app on settings screen … it has online update instead of update from LG apps store.
Approving even small update to LG apps store takes usually 1-2 month. Its tooo much …
