@Metasyntactic I’ll accept and admint your exp if you explain how HTML app/page can have more control over VIDEO tag … and how I can influance to
I’m happy to try. Can you please make your app source code available to me? I’ll test out v1 and v2 to see if I can isolate the problem.
Note: I’m willing to put in leg work here. Are you man enough to accept help?
Also, my points about being an experienced developer we’re about knowing how to responsibly treat customers. Something you know very little about. But I am also willing to approach this as a Dev and try to debug things for you.
Please let me know where I can get the app code, and I can start tomorrow on trying to figure this out.
Are you stupid or what?
Version 2.714.091 works and version 2.715.521 no!
The version of WebOS is the same !!! It’s just your application that has changed!
… the only difference is how transcoded URL is formed … and some othe UI changes
And perhaps that’s enough to cause the problem. For example perhaps your ui changes exacerbates an LG issue with how they allocate system resources. This issue then causes the built-in media player to have issues far more often than it did before.
I’ve experienced such bugs many times over my career. Where there was no issue in my own code, but my change in usage of another subsystem caused issues out of my control. I can commiserate with you in how this can be frustrating, and how it seems like it should all be the fault of the platform.
While that is true, it the platform isn’t willing to fix things (which is what you said LG’s attitude is like), then the RESPONSIBLE thing to do is restore access to your app that didn’t trigger these platform bugs.
As an example, we found as aws issue where ec2 servers might not process their entire startup .config file, leading to some amount of your fleet not starting up properly. This seems to happen if your config goes past 4k in size. Looks to be an issue in aws, but we just started running into it because we placed enough information in the config to go past that point. Or own customers started getting affected by this, so we rolled back our change, despite it almost certainly being on aws’ side.
It is totally possible that you are following all the docs and not doing anything bad yourself and yet your changes still go bad for customers.
For us, we rolled back within 24 hours. We didn’t try to point fingers. We just said: we have to do right by all or customers, and we’ll find a way to do this in the future that doesn’t have these issues and which does the original problem we were trying to solve
Big fan of XPlay and luckily I didn’t upgrade to V2 since I first wanted to wait for any bugs to be discovered and fixed. Still use it almost every day. I understand the sentiment here and just hope it doesn’t escalate to a point where no-one can use it anymore. I agree a rollback would a least solve most issues. Open sourcing it might also help, I see there are lots of developers here willing to help (including me).
There might be playback issues on some models, but for me v1 still works on my B6. So again, that would please a big group of users untill all issues are fixed.
What is very telling is how dishonest he is about what is being asked for. He keeps saying that people are pretending that v1 will solve everything and be perfect and unicorns.
But the point has been clearly stated over and over. The purpose of getting v1 out there is to be and to get information and to know conclusively one way or the other where the issue lies. If v1 is rereleased and still has these problems, I can accept it as some extremely strange problem. But bub isn’t even willing to try, even though there’s a realistic chance it might help.
So:
He won’t even try.
He lies about what people are saying.
He says he wants help, but then doesn’t actually take people up when they offer it.
And it’s now been 6+ months. I think you can reach me your own conclusions on exactly what sort of person this is.
I agree a rollback would a least solve most issues. Open sourcing it might also help, I see there are lots of developers here willing to help (including me).
Agreed. I’m also willing to help. Happy to do it in a closed source manner as well if you don’t want to go open source.
How about it bublokoff? Two developers are willing to with with you to try to get things working. Are you willing to actually work with us?

You are very very lucky. It’s been 6 months and the problems still persist. Do NOT upgrade. Stay on this version until we can actually make a functioning upgrade.
I would pay to be able to go back to the previous version that just worked well, played every movie I threw at it. Didn’t just hang out repeatedly ask for a pin. Could handle all my Plex users, etc. Etc.
I miss that version so much. It was one of the best things I ever paid for, and worth every penny.
We will get nothing!
This guy is stubborn to say that it’s LG’s fault!
But when you have several users who complain, well you think!
But he, he does not care!
It does not listen to its users who have paid to be able to use an application that does not work!
For me it’s simple, I’m going to file a complaint to the gendarmerie for scam!
I don’t want take any sides and I just want to share that I was experiencing this “PIN loop” and before that the app couldn’t remember any settings that I had changed. A factory reset of my B8 allowed me to authenticate with Plex and now everything seems back to normal. Changing settings works, 4K HDR with SRT subtitles works. If anyone else is facing those issues they could try resetting the TV as a last measure.
Oh wow, things have been escalating quickly around here.
Guys, simmer down. Can we take it easy on the whole “I’m a paying customer!” finger pointing? This app is less than $9. That’s a few cups of coffee.
I bought this app back in October of 2017 for my OLED65C7P (webOS 4.71) – I’ve been mostly happy with it but the issues with v2 have been multiplying. I believe bublikoff is working hard, and yet there is a trend here.
I do hate to see bublikoff antagonizing his users and LG. I’m concerned LG will ultimately remove this app from the store, and possibly from our TVs automatically. Before this goes too far, we should give bublikoff some space to iron things out, and consider joining forces working on a new, open-source Plex player in the long term. We have enough software developers around here.
I don’t recall if the official LG Plex client is open source? Is it still in bad shape? Can it be improved? Whatever the starting point will be, I would suggest putting a very strong emphasis on quality control over features. A ton of unit/integration testing, very high code coverage, a solid continuous integration pipeline, and an easy way for users to report if a version is “bad”. No new feature without tests. A/B testing if possible to test new features on a small subset of users before rolling to everybody (or an easy to join beta program).
And what version do you have now? Mine is 2.715.521. On my LG 65B8 I have only “4K media not loading/showing” problem… at least I notice this problem so far.
I don’t know if this is a feasible idea, but it is constructive and civilized and therefore I like it. The multilateral bashing is getting old, people. It is not worth it, and it solves nothing. If anything, it is potentially making things worse. If the dev indeed decided to give up on LG we end up with nothing. And I couldn’t really blame him at this point.
@bublikoff ; Is there anything I/we as a user can do? I have no significant problems using the app. I am watching 4k series and movies with subtitles without big problems. I would not know where to look to find out which webos my LG has though…
@bublikoff Well said @Sarcas@sebastienbarre
I have no issues my end that i can tell!! 4K and all work well.
Anything i can do to be constructive let me know!!
Thanks for your efforts!!!
Is there anybody with 2.715.521 that can play 4K media? If no then the problem is something in that particular version. If I download the version 2.713.xxx from the store I can watch 4K media but as soon I get the online update to 2.715.521 it stops retrieving 4K media. So @bublikoff when to expect something on the positive side? If soon there’s no an LG Store update with at least all the basic functions working normally… can you push 2.714.091 version to my user 21917171-BG? PLEASE!
