Updates for both versions of app were approved by LG today. Its important to update it.
Otherwise it will stop working after 3-4 November.

I update it on WebOS 1.4 and now dont work.

For the moment there are some problems that appear not to all user.
Some users catch one problem some another
- There was problem with billing communication and some users may catch inactivation status.
For the moment I have published (does not require to update from LG apps store) a fix that should fix this problem. At least I already have feedback from serval users that activation status is OK now. - Problem with magic remote clicks … also happened not to all users there is no direct dependency to webOS version on something like that. Clicks just stop working. For eg my home TV on webOS 3.5 works well with magic remote. Me and one user are trying to locate problem by running test versions on his TV. We have already found some clue … but for the moment its not fixed.
- Some ppl reporting that they can not play video content that they ware able to play in previous version (before update). New version have another algorithm of detecting compatibility. But anytime you can set play mode to “direct” to disable it and play media content as is. Especially if we speak about media with high bitrate … compatibility algorithm also check bitrate and compare it with “bitrate limits” from lg documentation … and if it exceeds bitrate limits it will force transcoding

Now There is another problem. On resume videos in WebOS 3.5, timebar goes crazy and clicks or cursors on bar doesn’t work. I want go back and goes fordward.
Timebar marks 3:02:15 for example, but movie has only 2h of duration.
That happens since last update.
Love Xplay since years and now that is a big problem.
Can u fix that? Thx.
Before the app would connect to the Plex server when it started but now the app shows the spinning circle and it doesn’t connect.
I’m also observing previously working videos no longer working with the latest XPlay release. I switched to “Direct” mode and it just hangs/spins before starting playback (I never want to transcode, since my server can’t support it). Example failure specs: MP4 container, 4K HEVC, 10 bit depth 13759 kbps. A different video works: MKV container 4K HEVC 10 bit depth 18123 kbps (biggest difference being MKV vs MP4 container - among other differences).
Further investigation: all MP4 videos are broken. Even a 720P H264 498 kbps video won’t play direct (and this used to work).
I don’t have touched nothing and now works. I have a MP4 and works fine.

And for the moment I got on in testing a dirty fix for magic remote control problem. Dirty fix is not the way out but it may give me more spare time to investigate the nature of problem. The main problem is that webOS TV emulators with old versions like 1.x and 2.x are totally unusable due to SSL certs problems … for eg app can not connect to Plex API due to SSL certs and it makes not possible to test app it emulators. Only real TV is needed.
Its probably the same issue with clicks. Unfortunately I can not catch it on my TV for detailed inspection. Doing remote debug with the help of users may takes hours as Im trying to touch darkness and find possible reason. Email me if you want to test a test version … if fix will help in your case

Does anybody knows how to scroll topic?) I can not scroll along posts an read it … mouse scrolling does not work … page up and down keys does not work also … up and down keys also … the only way is to try use slider … its a kind of trick to catch latest posts.
Maybe its better to create telegram group?
Another thing that has stopped working properly is 4K Dolby Vision MKV files. These used to work. Now during playback it doesn’t detect the DV and doesn’t switch to DV mode- images come out all green and purple. I note that 4K HDR still works.
Probably the problem is linked to embedded subtitles handling.
For the moment Im on the way to improve embedded subtitles handling … in a day or two I’ll publish fixed version. No extra actions will be required and update will be will applied automatically.

I did some more debugging myself regarding the two issues I currently have: mp4 not working at all and DV not working in mkv files - attempting to see if removing subtitles would help.
The old mp4’s I have do not have subtitles attached and they do not play in xplay. I can convert them to mkv using MKVToolNix, and they play just fine in xplay.
I tried stripping the subtitles from one of my 4K DV MKV files, and that did not help either - the video was still green+purple. This video plays fine in Plex through my Chromecast with Google TV.

What about subtitles … Ive prepared a test version were I have fixed subtitles handling.
So … Any text subtitles will not force transcoding media only graphical subs will … but who uses graphical subs nowadays? But if media content in transcoding mode subs will be shown by using transcoding “burn” method and color and position can not be controlled.
If subs are external no problem at all …
If subs are embedded and textual … it will try to play media in “direct” (as is) mode and will transcode subs (transcoder will transcode only subs not video or audio) .
While app is waiting for subs are loaded (waiting for the first cue that has start time equal o greater than current video time) it will show buffering spinner with “S” inside of it…
WebOS 4.5 / xplay v2800.39. Прямой режим, субтитры отключены.
- Не воспроизводит видеокодеки VC-1 и mpeg2video в mkv контейнере. (открывает в родном клиенте Plex)
- Не открывает TS контейнеры. (открывает в родном клиенте Plex)
- Если включить субтитры (.srt) во время воспроизведения фильма, значок подгрузки субтитров не исчезает, даже после полной подзагрузки субтитров.
- Вроде исправлено и сейчас не наблюдается. Проблема с временной шкалой и перемоткой. Например, если продолжить просмотр недосмотренного фильма (запустить во второй раз), то по шкале времени, время не то, на котором останавливался, хотя запуск происходит с того же места. И перемотка, если также продолжить просмотр (запустить во второй раз) сходит с ума, в какую сторону не мотай, улетай вперед огромными промежутком времени. Настройка в приложении перемотки (2, 5, 10, 15 и т.д. сек.) ничего не решают.
P.S.: Как понял, 3 версия приложения может DV в mkv, даже 7-ой профиль?! Можно ли добавить такую возможность во вторую версию приложения?
- Родной клиент транскодит всё и вся чтобы не иметь гемора с совместимоситью. Не указали так же в каком режиме пытаетесь воспроизвести … в авто, прямом или транскодирования. Попробую поискать сэмплы с кодеком VC-1 … не уверен что поддерживается webOS на системном уровне … VC-1 (он же WMV9) … надо поискать сэмпл
- Плюс минус ситуация аналогично … родной транскодит … поищу сэмпл ts … вообще по докам LG ts контейнер поддерживается … видео кодек H.264/AVC, MPEG-2, HEVC и аудио MPEG-1 Layer I, II, MPEG-1 Layer III (MP3), Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, AAC, PCM, Dolby AC-4
- … надо уточнение … тип субтитров … full или forced … если есть возможность зашарить данное видео на мой аккаунт плекс было бы проще … там суть в том что например если это forced субтитры и вы начинаете например смотреть 3х часовой фильм и по факту первая реплика появляется на третьем часу то пока идет транскодирование и пока программа не найдет опережающую по времени реплику оно показывает ожидание сбтитров … тут вопрос в том что можно факт транскодирования не подает ни каких признаков дл момента прилета первых фраз и программа точно не знает корректно ли отрабатывает транскодирование или нет. Если бы условно транскодер выдвал прогресс временной на котором он сейчас находитсья было бы конечно проще. Но в любом случае … вопросы к встроенным субтитрам на версиях webOS 1.x-4.x … начиная с версии webOS 5.x встроенные субтитры хоть как то можно выдрать без лишних заморочек. В свое время у LG была возможность выбирать встроеные субтитры используя их API но как оказалось что данный функционал они случайно слили в документацию разработчиков и вообщем история еще жива в памяти как пришлось ругаться с LG …
- Наблюдается или нет? потому что в принципе момент с перемоткой видяхи была переработана уже дня 4 а то и больше назад … точно не скажу.
- Поддержка кодеков и фактическое воспроизведение идет на системном уровне … программа не более чем графический интерфейс к медиа конетенту. Поддерживаемы форматы можно глянуть здесь https://webostv.developer.lge.com/develop/specifications/video-audio-45 … но прям напрямую на данные доки можно не ссылаться. Например LG указывают максимальные битрейты но по факту даже превышающий битрейт зачастую играет без проблем, тут скорее будет все исходить из конкретной ситуации …
Are there any one who have issue with playback toggle (play/pause) in video player by clicking on video zone … on clicking on video title does not showing video description.
I tried to debug this issue with user who have webOS 2.2 but I had no luck … due to webOS 1.x-3.x can not work correctly with SSL certs with new CA Authorities. I need to understand if this problem webOS version related or depends from something else. As for eg my home TV with webOS 3.x does have this issue
Кстати … в теории можно попробовать запустить версию 3 на webOS 4.x … но это не точно. Если удастся скомпилить с даунгрейдом под движок webOS 4.x то трёшку можно прокинуть на телики webOS 4.x
