Is there really NO WAY to make YouTube TV stream through PLEX? I’ve installed and linked my YouTube TV account through Google, and it shows up in PLEX plug-ins. However, it never asks me approve or authorize the account and no pop-up shows up asking me to do that.
I used the most recent kolsys .bundle install available through github. I’ve followed every direction carefully, I’ve added every conceivable exception in my antivirus program and my firewall, and done every conceivable process I can think of to make it work, but it still won’t allow me to stream YouTube TV. What am I missing?
I find it hard to understand how I can get the YouTubePremium subscription through the “Discover” process, but can’t find a way to do the same with my YouTube TV subscription. I can easily stream through the YTTV app on ROKU and others, but it would be much better to be able to do everything through PLEX and not be constantly switching between services.
Any help and/or information would be helpful and appreciated!
After downloading the .zip file from GitHub located at https://github.com/kolsys/YouTubeTV.bundle, you rename the .bundle file so there’s no text after “.bundle” as bundles downloaded from GitHub will usually have extra identifiers appended to the bundle’s filename, such as “-master”. Edit the bundle’s file or folder name to remove any text after “.bundle”.
Per the instructions in the GitHub website (and also in the Plex Support section https://support.plex.tv/articles/201187656-how-do-i-manually-install-a-plugin/ ) for Windows users, you copy the .bundle file into the Plex Plug-Ins folder located in the plug-ins folder on Windows, which is located inside the user directory.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins
Once done, restart Plex Media Server to make sure that the new plugin will be loaded.
So the plug-in loads, and shows up in PLEX, but it won’t let me authorize it by a pop-up Google account screen that’s supposed to appear, but doesn’t.
That’s where I’m stuck at. But that’s where I got the information from. Along with a tech article from October 2022 stating this method worked for the author of the article.
I linked my plex account to my Google account through Plex “settings”, and the YouTubeTV plugin shows up in the left settings menu, at the bottom under the “Manage” heading when I click on “Plugins” at the bottom.
Hopefully. It would be so much easier YouTubeTV streaming was available in the “Discover” section, where I use my YouTube Premium subscription to stream, along with the other services I subscribe to.
Interesting. I tried to do the same thing and didn’t succeed. Maybe I did something wrong. And now it turned out that Plex no longer officially supports plugins…
Discover is for on demand services where you can search for a particular show or movie and we can link you directly to that show or movie that you can start playback immediately if we know it is on a particular on demand service. We get the availability data from JustWatch.com
It does not cover “live tv” services which have continually streaming “channels”
Okay, I understand that now. However, I fail to see why 3rd Party Plugins don’t work. On a couple other platforms which also state they don’t “officially” support plugins, the 3rd-party plugins still function.
That being said, I don’t have a problem using the YouTubeTV app through ROKU to stream. This was more of a convenience issue to me which would have let me have faster. more time efficient access to my streaming services while using PLEX.
