TV extras

Currently, if your dvd extra, blooper reel, interview that isn't listed on thetvdb, you have few good options.

1. Add it to thetvdb,,, and pray that it isn't removed.

If you can't do option 1 because the show is locked, and no edits are allowed,,,,

2. Edit every single file name to S00Exx (where xx is a number that doesn't correspond with an existing entry on thetvdb)

What I currently do,,,

3. Create another category, a Home Videos category (mine is called MISC) and put all of these videos in this folder organized with subfolders. Then, from your plex client, view the category by folder (since the default view will sort by file name, and does not look pretty).

The Solution I propose:

In recent Plex updates, we can now use Extras folders for movies, and keep our extra content there. I propose that there be a subfolder name that Plex will recognize as something to not match with thetvdb, and serve as an Extras folder.

/TV Shows
   /Doctor Who (2005)
      /Season 00
         Doctor Who (2005) - S00E02 - The Christmas Invasion.mkv

      /Extras

Foxes performs 'Don't Stop Me Now' Doctor Who Series 8 (2014).mp4

         /Season 3

            Deleted Scenes.mkv

Please consider this in your efforts towards making the best Home Theatre software ever.

This would be a fantastic addition to the Plex Media Server software. I have a lot of extras ripped and converted that I can't use because plex identifies them as entire episodes or otherwise mucks them up.

Guys, check out this feature request. Basically this same idea, but Plex would pull the info if the Plex user doesn't have it.

Seems a bit more complex than what we’re asking for here. The feature request you posted might be cool down the line, but I’d think they would need to work on adding the basics that this thread is requesting.

Actually due to limitations and stubborness of TVDB Admins…(not accepting DVD Extras for submission)
Plex should remove the need to scrape Extra media at all.
The best system would be to use an Extras folder inside the content item folder structure

TV Shows Section

  • TV Showname
    – Season 1
    — Extras
    – Season 2
    ----Extras
    –Specials

If you don’t want to break it down by Season .no reason why it shouldn’t still work…

Same process for Movies
Movie Section

  • Movie Collection
    – Movie Title
    ----Extras

Plex should recognize that anything inside that Extras folder is extra content related to that scrapped series and display simple thumbnails and filename.
It should display these as they currently do for trailers and deleted scenes.

This would make naming conventions irrelevant as you can name them or categorize in any way you want that best serves your needs as opposed to the breaking down of Deleted Scenes or Trailers or Interviews.
You could still do that if you wanted but it would no longer be required.

Most people with huge libraries (like me) also run other media solutions aside from Plex. I have a few HTPCs as well and the way Plex handles extras simply won’t work in Kodi or other media frontends.

The Library should conform to a very simple structure using folders to separate the content not naming conventions.

If Implemented you could still easily use the naming conventions for content that does appear in the TVDB Specials section if you wanted as those can be considered SPECIALS not Extras.

Yes…please bring the feature from Movie Extras into TV Extras to work the same way. This seems like such a simple fix. Please please please…

Having the Movie Extras feature for TV Shows will be a cool idea and break down the extras by seasons.

What I do as a workaround is that I create a separate Movies section called TV Extras and put all of my extras for my TV shows by season.
