Allow content extras for TV series

So I have some TV extras that are not listed on The TVDB, and thus do not get scanned into the specials season, and would like to access them from PLEX. For example, gag reels, extended episodes etc...

I would like to add these to PLEX like you can with movies using the local media assets naming conventions. The best would be to be able to add an extras section to each season.

I think that would be neater than having to rename and lump them all under the specials category using unused, by TheTVDB, special episode number.

Anyone else?

I don't really see why this wasn't implanted along side with movies extra feature.

I have on a few occasions edited the listings in theTVDB to include the missing extras that I had.

You can add episodes to a season by picking an episode number outside the normal range of episodes.  For example, if season 1 of a show has 22 episodes, any files with episode numbers 23+ will show up but with no metadata.  I then rename the title to what it should be.

I know, but it seems like there should be a more integrated, and less kludgy, way of doing it. Also, that can't be done on the Series page (the one that shows the seasons) and some extras relate to the whole series, rather than a particular season.

BTW, does anyone happen to know the upper limit to episode number?

Are you just looking to have the extras show at the bottom of the page like it does for movies?

I prefer my method so I can actually add details to these.

The same method will work in the specials folder so you could but ones that relate to the whole show there.

I think the limit on episode number is 999.  The scanner script appears to look for up to 3 digits.  I've used 999 before, never tried anything higher.

I was looking for some way to have them visually segregated rather than just flow on from the actual episodes. Also parity with the movie section is a bonus.

Good point about the details.

Duh. sort of forgot about the specials folder

999 seems like plenty.

I'd also like this feature, i.e. the extras for each season underneath the episode list in each season view and TV show specials under the season list.

So far I can fare with the specials folder but that can get cramped quickly for shows with many seasons and a few extras per season, i.e. The Simpsons.

Oh, and some DVD extras, e. g. deleted scences, are not recognized by the TVDB as valid extras or special episodes, so they need to be local.

Every series I have looked at on TVDB has been locked at the season level. How do you go about editing?

TVDB has its own forum and rules. If you want to edit locked shows you have to search/open a thread on their forums for it.

+1 you have my vote because i love watching extra scene

I agree. I understand that "Specials" are the current way to handle this, but organizationally, this doesn't make sense to me. Take Battlestar Galactica, for instance. I don't think that specials such as the Miniseries, Razor, The Plan, and webisodes, which are all actual canonical episodes, should be in the same location as deleted scenes and documentaries.

ratmice is on to something with the per-season extras, but I think it could go even further than that. My suggestion would be to have the organization be the same as it is for movies, but you have the option of doing it on the series level, the season level, or the episode level. For instance:

/TV Shows
   /Battlestar Galactica (2003)
      /Behind the Scenes
          The Music of Battlestar Galactica.mkv
      /Season 1
         /Behind the Scenes
             Season One Behind the Scenes.mkv
         33.s01e01.mkv
         /Water.s01e02
             Water.s01e02.mkv
             /Deleted Scenes
                 Episode 2 Deleted Scenes.mkv
         Bastille.Day.s01e03.mkv
         Act.of.Contrition.s01e04.mkv

In the above example. "The Music of Battlestar Galactica" would be viewable from any episode, "Season One Behind the Scenes" would be viewable from any Season 1 episode, and "Episode 2 Delete Scenes" would only be viewable from s01e02, Water.

I like where PartyMummy is going with this.

Only thing I disagree with is where the Series and Season extras would be viewable. A series extra, such as "The Music of Battlestar Galactica" should only be viewable from the series page. Similarly, a season extra, such as "Season One Behind the Scenes" should only be viewable from the appropriate season's page. Otherwise I think that the extras could potentially get too cluttered at the episode level. It would also make it hard to determine whether a season or episode actually have applicable extras, or if they are just showing the season extras, etc.

Just my thoughts. Either way, we're definitely on the same page for why Specials and Extras are not the same, and that Extras can apply to any level of the show.

I would agree, except that as it currently is set up (for movies sections), the extras are only viewable from the pre-play screen, which you only see when you have an episode selected. If they somehow changed the access to the extras for TV sections, then I would definitely agree with your suggestions.

An all-purpose Extras for TV shows would be great. I usually have creditless openings and endings for my Anime shows and can never get them to show

This would be great to have.  The Star Trek box sets have a lot of features I'd like to add and I like how the Movie's organize it.

+1 for me.

I too have a lot of extras for my anime shows, Star Trek box sets, Classic Doctor Who DVDs that don't show up in TVDB and would love to see these show up in an extras level for the entire series and season level extras.

+1 for me too. tvdb actually specifically states (or it did last time i checked) that the specials season is NOT for DVD extras, etc. Should be integrated into TV as requested here!
