BT HUB 5 - not sharing with friends solution

Hi all, I have had issues sharing my server with friends since getting my new BT HUB 5.

I contacted them and they couldn't help and told me that they didn't support the open port for this.

So I sorted myself and it's my first time doing it so anyone can do it!!

Log into your BT HUB - you can get the link from BT but its just your IP address, and your need you admin code of the back of router

Log in and go to advanced settings

Firewall

Port Forwarding - (done by default)

Manage games and applications tab

Add new games or applications

Type Plex into the name bar

click no on copy exsiting

Then add the below to the list making sure you have the right selection of TCP or UDP and put in the numbers below - for example put TCP and type 32400 in every box (4 boxes to fill) then click add

Repeat until all numbers are in - you don't need them all but if unsure do them all

More information below this stuff - coz your not done yet!

The most important port to make sure your firewall allows is the main TCP port the Plex Media Server uses for communication:

  • TCP: 32400 (for access to the Plex Media Server) [required]

The following ports are also used for different services:

  • UDP: 1900 (for access to the Plex DLNA Server)
  • TCP: 3005 (for controlling Plex Home Theater via Plex Companion)
  • UDP: 5353 (for older Bonjour/Avahi network discovery)
  • TCP: 8324 (for controlling Plex for Roku via Plex Companion)
  • UDP: 32410, 32412, 32413, 32414 (for current GDM network discovery)
  • TCP: 32469 (for access to the Plex DLNA Server)

Hit apply

then click the port forwarding link again

Go to the select game or application drop down menu and find Plex - this is what you just added

select your device, this is what you store your movies etc on

Then hit add

Then hit apply

Nearly done.... go to plex app and go to settings

Server

Remote access

Click the manual button and retry

Job done!!!

Enjoy sharing

Just to clarify the ports listed above are not for the router port forward table but for the firewall on the system Plex Media Server runs on

For the port forward it is only local tcp port 32400 that needs to have a wan public port forwarded to it and this does not have to be 32400. The WAN Public port you use whether 32400 or otherwise needs to be the one you enter in Media Manager Settings / Server / Remote Access / Show Advanced : Manually Specify Port ticked and WAN port entered in the box

Also one thing to add is before you set the port forward make sure in the BT Home Hub DHCP List of IP Addresses you select the option to make the IP permanent for the server. The BT Home Hub 5 does not have a DHCP Reservation function but the IP Allocated by DHCP can be made permanent afterwards. This is important to do as the port forward would stop working if the lease is renewed and a new different IP Address assigned to the server

I have had problem after problem with remote access on the hub 5. Followed this thread and all seems sorted.

Cheers guys

Thank you. Problems all sorted now
