I had remote access (using port forwarding) working fine with my old BT Home Hub 5, but since upgrading to the new BT Smart Hub 6 I haven’t been able to get it working.
I’ve attached screen grabs of all the relevant ‘bits’. Can anyone help me solve this problem, what am I missing? Thanks.
FYI - The BT Smart Hub 6 supports UPnP and I have several other devices connected in this way. I thought Plex Server was UPnP, so I’m not sure why the hub can’t see this?
I have observed the same behaviour, despite multiple forwarding rules being registered by UPnP.
I connected to the plex server locally, via http://192.168.1.XXX:32400/web/ (use correct IP), then went to Settings > Server, it reported the external access was not working, with a “Register Server” (or something like that) button I clicked to fix the problem
I am having the same issue with plex installed on a synology NAS, since I upgrade to home hub 6 I can no longer gain remote access. Did anyone find a solution?
Hi all. Apologies for not replying sooner. I was expecting to receive notifications of replies, but didn’t so I forgot about this post until now.
After I had set things up I went on holiday for two weeks. When I came back things were working again… Go figure?..
The only thing I have noticed is that now my media server is listed twice in the Plex apps (iPhone, Xbox etc.). One of them works (presumably the new configuration), the other doesn’t (the old configuration?).
I can only assume that there’s an issue with uPnP and the new BT Smarthub, and that it took a little while for it to detect the media server? I’ve no idea really though, I’m not a sys-admin.
Hello. I recently upgraded to the smart hub 6 too and had the same issue with the remote access to plex.
I was able to correct the error by these following steps:
I had this for the first 3 weeks, at least 2-3 times a day. Took a reboot of the router and plex server to fix everytime - the router nearly went out of the window multiple times!
Was connected over uPuP and it kept changing the ports which i think caused the disconnect, even though the new port registered automatically as forwarded.
3 days ago i:
ticked the ‘manually specify public port’ (shown in the second photo of the original post);
manually port-forwarded 32400 on the router;
disabled the firewall
restarted everything
enabled the firewall
…and Plex Server has been up and accessible ever since
I also have Smart Setup disabled. Not sure if this had any effect, i turned it off while troubleshooting and haven’t found a reason to turn it back on.
Similar issue but on Windows server, but symptoms are the same, however.
I’m a network noob, but have the hub 6 as my main router, with a netgear wndr3700 connected via powerline up stairs to extend the wireless reach in my house, and the server is connected via powerline to the hub and also to an Amazon Fire TV box. Showing as inaccessible outside the network if I’m only using the powerline but as soon as I connect to either of the wi fi networks (hub or netgear) it’s accessible. Any have any ideas?
Just an update 5 months on… I’m still having issues with the BT Smart Hub 6. Remote access will work as expected for a day or so and then just stop working. I then usually have to restart the Plex server (or the hub) to get it working again.
I’m going to try some of the suggestions above and report back here with my findings.
Clearly this is an issue with the hub and not Plex (my old BT Home Hub worked fine for years). I’m going to give up soon and just bin it. Any recommendations on a good replacement that I can use with BT Infinity?
