OpenSubtitles agent issues

From Reddit.

Have you checked the Plex knowledge base and searched on the sub and Google: Yes

Server version: Version 1.1.4.2757

OS: Ubuntu Server 16.04.1 LTS x64

Clients, w/ versions, if applicable: Server-side issue

What’s wrong? OpenSubtitles agent incorrectly matches subtitles for many TV Shows, including Wayward Pines and The Walking Dead, and also movies – Sicario, for example.

But there’s a catch.

The agent only incorrectly matches English subtitles.

I can also speak/write German and several other languages and subtitles in those languages are matched correctly.

What are your (relevant) settings? I’m signed in to OpenSubtitles in my server’s settings. Language priorities make no difference – all tested subtitles except English work as intended.

What’s causing the issue? The file hash. It seems that only English subtitles are matched using a hash while subtitles for other languages are matched by a specific file’s name.

For example, using VLC’s auto-subtitle tool by hash provides the same incorrect subtitles as Plex, but searching by name (using that tool) provides correct results.

How can Plex solve this issue? Search OpenSubtitles by file name and not by hash or at least give users choice.

Thanks for that.
It works like a charm and correctly matches subtitles. Much better than the default stuff.
