The newest PS3 Plex client (2.10.1 according to settings, on a PS3 01.41) has an onscreen bug during playback of media. While video is playing back, ellipses (that is “…”) appears on the middle of the screen and stays on the screen. It remains on the middle of the screen until playback is either aborted, or paused and resumed. After playback is resumed, the ellipses will reappear after a minute or two, and again stay on the screen. Previous versions did not have this bug; 2.10.1 is the first version to exhibit this bug.
Same is happening to me after update today. BTW Plex was almost unusable until this update. It was horribly slow to use. Now the menu is awesome! Only problem is this bug! Thank you!
I’m seeing this as well. Try changing your screensaver delay to 30min in settings. Haven’t tested much but it seems to increase the time before the ellipsis show up. May be a clue to what’s gong wrong as well…hope a real fix is in the works.
I haven’t had a chance to use the new platform update yet but I am really grateful to the Plex PlayStation team that it is here. =D>
Hopefully the minor bug reported here will be fixed by the team quickly, and I will never know it existed by the time I get back to the ps3
I too have encountered this undocumented feature.
I have also noticed, not all of my movies in the PLAYLIST are playing all the way through. Some stop at various points. This does not happen during regular playback.

I am running a Windows Server 2012 R2 and there is no screensaver set to run. I still have that issue. Also, there is a setting in Plex to handle screensavers now.
Cheers!
Also getting this, eventually the plex screensaver will turn on as well. I will still be able to hear audio but just with a bouncing plex logo.
It doesn’t appear to be a way to skip this update so my other ps3 doesn’t do this, its actually pretty wrecked imo. If there is a way to skip the update or revert back id like to know. But hopefully this quirk gets worked out soon.
We’re looking into this at the moment.
Until we sort out why the screensaver is getting all up in our businesses please try disabling the screensaver using the Settings > Main > Screen Saver > None
.
I was hoping the screensaver suggestion would work, but unfortunately it didn’t. I changed the setting from 30 minutes to None, and the ellipses still appeared after 1-2 minutes.
Thanks for the feedback @KMVastero. We were afraid of that. We’re suspecting there’s some bad buffering state management which can cause a screensaver to display too quickly or the dots to display and hang.
Are you all playing from servers on your local network or are these remote servers?
While the dots are on screen is playback continuing in the background? Or, has the application quick playback within about a minute after the dots display?
Sorry @KMVastro, I see you’ve already left detailed feedback on the issue in your original post:

On it.
Question for you guys, If you bring up the OSD while the … is displayed, do you still see the time being updated or is it stock at some specific time?
I am not getting the screensaver problem. I just have the three dots on top of the video while it’s running.
we can repro the issue on our side, we are working on a solution, will keep you guys updated.
OH-something new since the update–when I start a video the sound starts first then after 5 seconds the video comes on. Not a big deal but I hope it helps. Also I use Plex Server on a pc that is connected by a router (wired) to the ps3 (wired) across the room.

I’m also getting the 5-second video delay when starting playback. Audio starts right away, but video stays black for a few seconds. It is not out-of-sync, though. Once the video appears it’s all fine.
I’m playing from a local server connected through a wired router, as well.
I am also getting both of the above mentioned issues. I have disabled the screensaver, but the ellipses appear every few minutes. Also, I am getting the 5 second delay where the audio plays as the video appears to be loading but is not out of sync once the video begins.
PS3
Windows 10 Home (local server)
SmartRG 505 Router
Wired Network
I’m seeing the 5s delay before video is shown too. Video playback starts, I hear audio, then the video and OSD displays. The OSD is displaying 0:06
seconds. Funky.
Just to add… Im local as well, centos7 server wired net… From what it sounds like none of this matters… But there you have it
Also not a big deal but if a movie is paused for certain amount of time (10 minutes?)I get a “There was a problem playing this item” screen with a retry button. That didn’t happen before the update.
