Media gets to end and won't go back to the menu

So after I watch a video on my PS4, it gets to the end and instead of going back to the menu, it stops and shows the […] on the screen and stays there. I have to close the app and restart it. I’ve done all the normal things of closing and restarting the server (and the machine it’s on) and reinstalling the app on the PS4. I’ve also noticed that after that happens that the show doesn’t show as watched but is only shown to be 1/3 - 2/3 watched.

I’m also getting behavior similar to this, and I assume it has something to do with the update to the PS4 app that launched on 10/30. I used Plex constantly on my PS4 without issue, but now I get the behavior you described. On top of it, if I am playing music, it will stop after a song and hang up. If I close the app and load it back up, it resumes where it must have last communicated on the song it stopped after, similar to the video issue you described.

Same on PS3. States the PLex server is offline, it isn’t.
When it recognises the server again it suggests that the epsisode was partially watched. Only happens as the episode finishes.

Same here. Also happens when you pause for a long period of time.

Same results found here as well. I wonder if it has something to do with the media server update and not the PS3/4 app?

I think it’s the latest PlayStation update, as it was working ok on the previous version

Been experiecing the same since yesterday

Yeah, experience the same thing when playing music today; would stop after each song and I’d manually have to move to another song. At least channels are working again.

Same thing happened to me on my PS3 today.

Yep, yesterday for me too. Hoping it gets fixed soon as I just paid for a 12 month plex pass for the sole reason of using it on the PS3…

It would super helpful to understand if the videos are direct playing, transcoding, or direct streaming. Will you all please give me a little more information to go on?

I just have my Plex server and PS4 stuff as default as it can get on my videos. I haven’t changed any settings.

But the problem isn’t just with videos. If I’m playing music, it stops the entire thing after a song just like it does with videos. It’s like the overall communication with the server messed up in this app.

Same issue for me also on my ps4 does not seem to matter what type of video its playing.

I’m having exactly the same issue. Plex server is setup on a QNAP NAS with default settings in terms of direct play \ stream to PS4. This has happened since the latest update. It happens when ending a video, pausing for a long time, or even just exiting a video that’s currently playing (via pressing the circle button).

Looking at the movie I’m currently watching on the server (web gui) it says:
Transcoding (throttled)
Video - Transcode (h264)
Audio - Transcode (AAC)

On the client it says:
Audio - English (AC3 5.1)
Subtitles - Note
Quality - 8.7 Mbps 1080p (Original)

The PS4 is connected to the NAS via wired network connection through an ASUS AC66U router.

I hope this info helps - feel free to let me know if you need anything else. Whilst playing still works it’s a tad cumbersome to quit every time you want to change episode etc…

Having the same issue

The videos were all transcoding. I also noticed that after about 10 mins the server believed there was no activity, even though it was happily streaming.
Plexpy was reporting the same.

The stuff I was watching was 480/720 AAC 2.0 H.264. Data held on NAS, server on Windows PC (latest) and wired connection to PS3.

Hi, I have been experiencing the same thing since the latest update to Plex Media Server (Version 0.9.12.18). If I try to leave the video playback once it has created a resume point, the PS4 app hangs. Eventually it goes to a Server Time Out issue and cannot reconnect.

Running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

Troubleshooting I have performed:

Closed PMS on Win10
Restarted PMS
Attempt failed

Restart PC
Clicked on Retry on PS4 Plex App to reconnect to the server
Attempt failed

Ran Repair of PMS in Windows 10 Program & Features part of Control Panel
Attempt failed

Uninstalled PS4 Plex App
Restarted PS4
Reinstalled PS4 Plex App
Success

The last video I tested I fast forwarded to 30 seconds remaining of the video. Where it used to fail returning back to the Plex Menu, it worked this time.

I have attached the Plex Media Server.log file in case there is something else that can be used to identify a potential problem.

I have just let the video play for over 11 minutes and the error has returned.
