SAT>IP is a IP Based Solution for DVB-S, DVB-C and DVB-T. The Standart is documented. You can use SAT>IP Hardware Servers directly as Headend (most only free-to-air) or a lot of the existing headend solution like TVHeadend or Enigma2 based solution support SAT>IP Servers.
This will give Plex the possibility with one protocol to extend the closed DVR Solution to a open standard.
I would love to see SAT>IP support. Due to its open standard it is not limited to only HD Homerun systems.
Implementing it would allow using PLEX’s DVR functionality on countless systems at one blow!
Could not agree more. As I noted on a separate thread, from a business case perspective there are an increasing number of SAT>IP users out there, particularly in Europe. I suspect Germany in particular sells lots of SAP>IP products. Panasonic’s current SAT>IP TVs (or TV>IP as they call it, which has launched in Germany) is an example of another company supporting this opportunity. And as this is a European standard (EN 50585:2014), a Plex DVR + NAS + SAT>IP combination will drive cord cutting across the region - bring it on!
btw there are also some official DVB-C (CableTV) and DVB-T SAT>IP servers. So one protocol (well documented) and you can use Plex with every technology. Also with paytv cards.
Please support SATIP protocol in Plex. This protocol is gaining momentum in Europe and Asia. Chinese SatBox manufacturers started supporting this protocol and already brought some devices on the market.
++++++infinity on SAT>IP support.
My entire family LOVE Plex. It’s the only media center product, of MANY, that I introduced to the family that they have fully accepted. They LOVE using Plex.
SAT>IP was the only affordable solution available that allowed me to distribute UK Sat TV here in Germany, though out our home. Wiring up the place wasn’t going to happen. And it works incredibly well, with zero issue so far on the server side. Problem is, no one in the family has fully accepted any solution I’ve provided at the client end. They’ve rejected a couple of STBs and AndroidTV/AppleTV apps due to quirkiness of their interfaces.
They KNOW Plex. They LOVE using Plex. Plex + SAT>IP = A Dream come true for me.
SAT>IP protocol is well documented, and appears to making some seriously big inroads this year in Europe. Pretty much every highend STB can function as a server, if not a client. There’s even a few LNBs available that are SAT>IP servers, that hook up into your network directly via ethernet.
SAT>IP support from within Plex would be a KILLER APP in my opinion.
In the UK this would be a brilliant solution for FreeSat users and allow me to get our PVR and Live TV watching setup via Plex. The fact it’s an open standard makes it even better as you’ll get support for multiple devices by adding support for the protocol.
Personally it would make PVR usable as right now I can’t use it as there is no Satellite solution.
P.s. if you like this idea make sure you remember to like to original post as that’s what counts when plex look at requests.
