Synology NAS + LG TV = Link Account EVERY time?

This issue seemed to start about a month or two ago out of nowhere. Every time I go to sign in on the Plex app on my LG Smart TV, instead of it connecting successfully, I need to go to https://plex.tv/link to link the TV to the Plex server. I’ve looked at my devices and it seems to re-register the TV as a new device every time (Plex for LG (NetCast) 3.3.1)

DiskStation
1.7.2.3878-8088811b8
Plex Media Server
Linux 3.10.102 (#15101 SMP Fri May 5 12:01:55 CST 2017)

Every once in awhile it works fine and signs in as usual, but usually it does not. I’d appreciate any support to get this resolved.

Thank you.

Any luck figuring this problem out?

That is the same thing my friend has to do. It’s been going on for a few months.
No idea why… I often check out the smarttv section but nothing I can see helpful.

First of all, set a static IP address for your TV, or if your router supports it, use DHCP reservation.

Then add that IP address to List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth in Plex settings->server->network.

The address should look something like this: 192.168.x.x/255.255.255.0

I can’t guarantee that it will solve your issue though.

@trumpy81
Do you believe this may also help my friend?

Hi guys, thanks for all the input, I’ll give it a shot. For some odd reason I didn’t get notified to any replies so apologies for not acknowledging earlier.

I know my TV is currently not on a static IP so it makes sense that giving it one could help. I’ll let you know in a few days!

Good day, I have a similar problem every time after turning off the TV requires registration https://plex.tv/link
Plex for LG (NetCast) 3.8.0
Plex Media Server 1.5.7.4016 Windows 7

Address is static and addresses List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth

@eprom65

Did that fix your issue?

No, I wrote this for information.

No luck here either. I had one night where I didn’t have to sign in (which happens occasionally), but even with the static IP there’s no luck. I think this issue needs to be looked into by the Plex team itself. Any ideas how to make them aware?

I’ve been having this problem as well. The error message on my TV said something like “Allow fallback to insecure connections” so I went into that and it was set to “Never”. I changed it to 'On same network as server" and now it seems to be working fine. I’ll come back if the problem re-occurs.

No luck here with that solution unfortunately. It seems to reset the settings as well, like my TV is a brand new client every time.

Ok I was able to finally resolve the issue by resetting the tv to factory settings and reinstalling Plex. It’s been three days without any issues.

Maybe simply uninstalling and reinstalling would have worked, but it was too difficult to find the uninstall screen on the OS.

Makes me think that the settings portion of the app were probably corrupt and it couldn’t fix itself.

Hope this helps someone else!

Hello,

What I have done (and it works for me), step by step:

  1. Configure: List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth
    • Instructions here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200430283-Network
    • My gateway: 192.168.1.1
    • My Plex Server: 192.168.1.2
    • My Plex Client (LG TV): 192.168.1.9
    • Then, my configuration: 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0
    • That configuration will accept any request from any device with IP 192.168.1.* with no auth.
  2. Remove Plex client application from my LG TV.
  3. Set default factory settings to my LG TV.
  4. Install Plex client application.
  5. Make link between my Plex Server and Plex Client.
    • Don’t worry. You will be asked only once.
  6. Shutdown LG TV, switch on and try again.

This worked for me. I hope this will worked for all of you too.

Best regards,
Aaron Planell
