LG TV Plex App Having to re-link every time the TV is turned off

As the question states: Each time the TV is turned off and back on again I have to go to http://plex.tv/link and enter the code shown on the screen. A bit ridiculous and means I’m falling back on using PlayZ for my local media playback.

Any chance of a fix for this (or suggestion on what I’m doing wrong here - has only been happening since the last update)

I’m assuming you now have some kind of network connection issue since the last update. (you updated your TV or Plex?)
Your TV should have DNLA which is a way to connect your TV to your network automatically.

If i’m wright you have two options.
Go to your TV’s website or call for a fix or update.

The other option is to see if you have “static IP” options with your TV. It is a manual way of connecting to your network. A little more difficult to setup but much better, well worth your time invested.
To learn how to do a static IP do some research on it. The web offer a step by step guide far better than I can provide. The guide will also let you know if doing this is a possibility.

This is all assuming I’m right. Your first step should be letting letting us know which one was updated. Your TV or Plex server?

Everything I wrote was assuming its your TV. I seem to jump to conclusions. lol

Thanks for the response, I should have been more clear about my particular set up:

LG TV is a 2013 model (passive 3D) - 42" screen

It’s connected to the network by RJ45 cable. The router is set to give the TV a static IP address. The internet connection to the TV is fine and all the software on the TV is up-to-date.

The update appears to be to the Plex app on the TV itself. I’m having to re-link the app each time I use it, rendering it too annoying to use in it’s present state.

The Plex Media Server is on the same network (and wired in) and is up-to-date. It’s running on a Windows 7 Professional (64 Bit) machine.

If there are any answers, I’d be grateful! As of this morning, it was still requiring me to re-link the app when I used it on the TV.

To be clear, I’ve been using the Plex app on the TV with no issues up until last week - when either the latest TV app update or server update caused it to insist on linking.

Okay, Gotcha.

I have had to do that twice but I’m on a HTPC which is hooked up to my (not so smart) TV. All I can think of is there might be some kind of an option to log in automatically when you turn on the app. I know I don’t log in when visiting the website on my PC. I just press the “sign in” button, my credentials must be on a browser cookie, I don’t fill out anything, no password are submitted and I’m logged in.

Try going to your account, I’m just guessing. I couldn’t find it myself.

Also, just double checking. Do you have a Plex pass? That might be one the differences between free and paid.

I’m a lifetime Plex pass member - the app isn’t usable on the LG tv if you log in with a free account.

I’ve logged in to the web app and checked devices, it shows the TV as ‘Plex for LG (NetCast)’ - which is fine. My guess is the actual TV app may have a setting on it, but this is something that’s been added within the last update to the TV app itself. Will check when I get home from work. Thanks for your help on this - I’ll update this post if I find an answer

I have the same problem.
My TV also get the same static IP from my router.
When I go to Settings -> Devices -> Other there are a big amount of entries which says "Plex for LG (Netcast). All the entries is for the same TV!
Seems like a bug to me (or a “feature”)!

It’s annoying to link the TV every day but you get used to it…
