Hi all Plex users and Plex team!
I love Plex and I bough a Plex Pass only for its “Camera Upload” amazing feature.
I’ve been waiting this kind of feature for a long time to :
- import my photos quickly and cordless on my computer (to PMS),
- avoid uploading my personal photos on a cloud (because of privacy concerns and also my poor internet connection).
But I think this could be HIGHLY improved to become a real “Photos Manager”, no only a streaming server.
I’m sure this could be THE “Plex killer feature” that will make many users buy a Plex pass!
So please let me make a set of feature request about it (I’ll do several posts, as described in forum guidelines)
If you also want a feature, don’t forget to vote for it (by liking my corresponding post).
MANY THANKS! B)
Request #1
Do background “Camera Upload” from iOS when Plex app inactive, like Dropbox
On my iOS Plex app client, I enabled camera upload and also enabled “automatic upload” option.
So each time I open the Plex app, it will scan my local iOS photos library and if new media are found, they are uploaded to my PMS. Well.
BUT when I quit the Plex app (clicking the iPhone HOME button, so the app goes to background), the upload hangs.
If I open again the app, the upload continues where it was stopped.
I know that iOS have limitations for apps to be active in background, and that you can’t upload photos indefinitely on background.
BUT I also know that iOS should allow an app to be active on background for some time (for example 10 minutes) after being in background.
For example, Dropbox has a Camera Upload feature. Whan the upload begins, if I quit the Dropbox app, it will continue to upload for a few minutes in background.
With my poor internet connection I upload some few photos, but with a local upload through WiFi to PMS on my computer, this should upload many more photos!
SO: I’d LOVE if you could improve the background Camera upload feature on iOS!
