I’ve been a hardcore user of Plex for well over a year now, and have just bought myself a HDHomerun so I can take advantage of live TV, obviously. I’ve been running my whole server of a 2011 Mac mini which has been fine and worked great, though when it comes to multiple users transcoding at once, sometimes it gets a little laggy, which is totally okay! But when it comes to live TV, the stream is interrupted literally every 10 seconds due to the Mac mini not having enough power to convert in time. When I look at it’s CPU usage, it’s at 100%!
So I set up Plex Media Server on a dedicated Windows desktop machine which is super powerful. I went through the set up of the DVR and waited for it to update the EPG and all of that. It picked up all the channels off the HDHomerun with no issues. When you click on a programme, it plays instantly. No lag. The only issue, and I mean, the BIGGEST, most impossible issues, is that there’s NO video at all! It’s just audio!! My Windows machine is fully up to date, I’ve installed the latest drivers, blah blah blah, but it’s not showing any video.
Is there a fix for this? Is this machine just not compatible with it?
I am having the same issue. I have a Windows 10 Computer with an i7 processor and 8 gigs of RAM. I am using the Hauppauge WinTV-DualHD which is a supported device. Everything went smoothly with the setup. I tried to play a live TV program and I get audio but no video. I thought that maybe it was the Hauppauge so i uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and it still did not work. I then installed the DVR software for the Hauggauge and I was able to get audio and video on their software. This leads me to believe that it is either on the Plex side with a bug or a setting, or on the hauppuage side with a setting change.
Same issue here as well with plex server installed on my windows 10 box and watching live tv on my apple tv 4k. I hear sound but no video. I know my connect is working fine because I can watch live tv HD home run app on my Xbox.

Yeah that’s the exact same for me! And when I look at the server status, it only shows that it’s transcoding audio, there’s no video stream! HDHomerun also works for me on all of its apps. And it did work on plex on the Mac server I had.

How’s the Apple TV 4K by the way??
I’m really enjoying it so far, I like how they have a lot of the same apps as the app store on the iPhone. I don’t have a 4k tv yet but that’s on the short buy list.
I am having the same issue running on Windows 8.1 and trying to play live TV on iPhone or iPad app. Live TV for me used to work very well for me early on but at some point after upgrading the plex media server live TV has become very unreliable. Currently it is in the mode where sound only, no video.
Phew! Glad that it’s not only happening to me. Just today, I moved my Hauppage WinTV-HVR-2250 from my living room media PC to my Plex Server, in the hopes that using Plex would be a better experience than WinTV 8. No dice … audio only, no video.
My Plex Server is fully capable of doing multiple simultaneous transcodes; it’s an i7-6700K with 32 GB RAM running Windows Server 2016.
I think I read a post where Windows server doesn’t have the framework built in for tv tuners and you have to do a workaround. Might have been in the additional tuner support subforum. Didn’t apply to me but hope it helps point you towards a solution.
If that is it I wonder if it’s specific to ios devices sometimes apple updates things and can cause issues.

Hmm I’ll have a look into it and post my results. But surely, since I’m using HDHomerun; the original supported HD tuner for plex, they wouldn’t make you have to do do advanced stuff for it? Like if I run the HDHomerun Windows app, I can see video and it works like a dream. And also, through plex, even Chrome on the server itself wont show video.
Can any Plex officials help? How do we contact them??

I’ve search high and low for support contact information and i cannot find it. Not even an email address.
I’m having the same issue on v 1.9.3.4290-979817d4. HD Homerun Connect > Windows 10 > Fire TV.
Audio plays, but no video nor transcoding details…just Player: ExpoPlayer v2.0. No video details/No Audio details.
Other posts suggest adjusting Fire TV > Settings > Advanced > Audio Passthrough > Auto, but it doesn’t seem to fix the issue. I think this is a bug and needs to be fixed on the back end.
Hi guys. Can you provide me the logs from PMS after recreating this issue? There is an issue we are looking at that may be related. We’d like to see the logs to check.

@“Hamish Lawrence” - Ok, your logs show the indications that it is the issue we’ve seen. This will be fixed in 1.9.4. For now, rollback to 1.9.2. @yotofuji said: @dsaliva said: @ImCoKeMaN said: @DevBiker said: @dsaliva said:
Awesome, yeah that worked! Didn’t even think of that because I never upgraded this server; just downloaded the one that was there. Working great. To the other guys; Rollback!

How do we rollback to 1.9.2? I only have access to 1.9.3 via the plex download page and don’t have any previous versions saved locally. Thanks
You have to turn off the ‘Plex Pass Downloads’ and then 1.9.2 should show up. You don’t lose your Plex Pass benefits, it’s just that 1.9.3 is a preview/beta release, not public yet. And you need to uninstall your current server before installing this (don’t worry, you won’t loss your data)
Thank you. I figured the non-plex pass version had Live TV/DVR stripped out. After rolling back (Uninstall/Reinstall), Live TV is back! Thanks for your timely replies and glad we could help uncover a bug in 1.9.3. Looking forward to everything in the pipeline for future releases!!!

Any idea of how I go about rolling back on UnRAID server? Looking at the plex log on UnRAID it says this: ##################################################################
NOTE: Your system does not have udev installed. Without udev
you won’t be able to use DVBLogic’s TVButler for DVR
or for LiveTV
Please install udev and reinstall Plex Media Server to
