Plex with HDHomeRun Prime - no video

I have been running Plex on my Ubuntu 64-bit 14.04 server for some time.

Today I installed an HDHomeRun Prime. This is on the same 1GB ethernet with my Ubuntu Plex server.
I also updated to Plex version 1.9.6.4385 and purchased a Plex pass.

The HDHomeRun scans my channels and I can watch live TV from the HDHomeRun Windows Viewer App over WIFI.
So the HDHomeRun tuner works fine when not used from Plex.

I added the HDHomeRun under Plex, configured the channels and downloaded the EPG (after some issues that others have had)

Live TV just doesn’t work -

  • Under the Plex Chrome app (running on the Ubuntu Plex server), I can bring up the EPG, but when I try to watch something live, I only audio and no video. Audio breaks up periodically, and I also see a spinning orange circle off/on. Note: playing video files stored on the server works fine. Again, this is a direct network; no WIFI. (I get the same results from Chrome on a Windows 8 laptop over WIFI)

  • From Fire TV client (version 6.5.3.2115) it is basically idential to the Chrome client - When I tune live TV I get audio, but no video - only a spinning orange circle. Note: playing video files from the Plex server works fine.

If I record a program and then play it back - the same thing. Audio but no video.

FYI - I see lots of errors in the Plex Media Server.log like these:

This is a big in 1.9.6 had same thing happen after upgrade and it broke everything. Rolled back to 1.9.5 and everything is ok

Please could you enable debug logging and get a 1.9.6 set of full logs of the problem?

See
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201643703-Reporting-issues-with-Plex-Media-Server

Do you have the prime tuner to convert on the fly? If so you might try turning that off and seeing what happens. Just a thought. Go to the DVR page. Click the gear on the tuner.

FYI, I did a complete uninstall, wiped /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server and did a fresh install of 1.9.6.4385. Also, I do not have “Convert video while recording” enabled.

I set up everything again, taking defaults wherever possible. I added back the HDHomeRun and refreshed the EPG.
I turned on debug logging and restarted Plex server and tried to play live tv from the guide from the Chrome UI on the local Plex server machine. Still have only audio and no video.

See logs attached. (I’m running Ubuntu 64-bit 14.04 LTS )

Thank you very much

This will be referred to the development team

Thanks.

Since it seems that others are seeing the same issue on 1.9.6, should I just roll back to 1.9.5.4339 ?
Can I do this without a clean install, or can I use the 1.9.6 data base?

Yes the issue is affecting a number of users - 10 users have reported the problem.

It should be ok to use the 1.9.6 database on 1.9.5

For a downgrade, on windows one would need to go through Uninstall through Add / Remove programs first before installing the older version.

For linux, i do not believe it is necessary to remove the higher version package first

A fix will be released shortly

@KirkWolf

Plex Pass Beta release 1.9.6.4401 is now available. It has a fix for the no video issue
