An option to just use guide metadata (gracenote) and turn off plex movie or tvdatabase metadata on a per library or per recording basis would be good.

I meant use the metadata from gracenote for recordings rather than, say, plex movie or thetvdatabase metadata. Plex wrongly identifies ‘Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams’ as ‘Electric Dreams’ (https://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=116991&lid=7). The guide data is perfect and would be nice to default to this instead.

Such issues can be solved.
Are you recording this show using the DVR feature of Plex? If so, it should use the metadata from the guide.
If you are adding this show in a different way into Plex, you’d need to adhere to the Plex naming guide for tv shows. Perhaps there are also embedded metadata in your files which interfere?

Late to the party, but hopefully arriving with good news. Apologies in advance for duplicate replies. I see there are several threads asking the same thing and want to make sure they see the same thing.
In the DVR settings you’ll find an option to enable Enhanced Program Guide. It uses TVDB when that feature is enabled. Try turning it off, as then it should use EPG.
