AVM cable SAT2IP tuner: Detected but unable to scan for channels

I use a couple of cable devices made by the German company AVM. They produce cable routers and cable bridges with included DVB-C to IPTV tuners. You can can the free-to-air DVB-C channels and stream those throughout the network by using a m3u playlist.

Those tuners are detected as tuners in PMS (as FRITZ!Box 6490 Cable for example) and listed as cable devices. However, you can’t initiate a channel scan. The next button stays greyed out and a flashing “12:00” is displayed.

I’ve also attached the tuner log, a sample m3u channel list right and the satipdesc.xml file.

The dvb-c to ip tuner is recognized as a SAT2IP server with the correct IP as well. I can’t seem to run a channel scan though, as the button is grayed out.

I’m sorry, but my 6490 is not listed, but my WLan-Repeater is listed. This is very strange:

My problem is, that the WLan-Repeater is placed in the 1st floor of my house and there are no tv conections. So i can’t support the WLan-Repeater with a TV signal. I tried to enter the ip-address of my 6490 (with and without portnumber), but Plex won’t find it.

The VLC find all my live streams from the 6490. So i know that the live streams are working:

Any tips, ideas or help?

Can you scan with the devises owm software? The found channels will then show up in plex.

No, the 6490 Box is not listed in Plex, so i can’nt scann ist. The repeater is listed in Plex (see pic above) - but the repeater has no connection to the antenna/tv cable.

Interesting idea.

The 6490 network tuner is listed as a cable tuner in Plex, but I can’t find a way to initiate a channel search through plex. The button to advance just remains grayed-out.

I’ve already run the channel scan on the box itself and it works fine. VLC can playback all those channels with the m3u playlist the box spits out. They just don’t show up in Plex…

Shouldn’t this work similar to the HD Homerun? Please see the attached m3u playlist I’ve attached earlier.

Back again with some new details.

I’ve noticed that the button to initiate the channel scan is just being displayed outside of the pop-up window. Probably a problem with the display scaling or font setting on my system. That’s why I could advance in this dialog window - the button is simply hidden from view on the right hand side.

However, while I was able to select the proper dvb-c provider from the drop-down menu and start the channel scan, Plex doesn’t find any of the available channels.

EDIT: I’ve attached an updated log file. Maybe that can provide some clues why the channel scan isn’t finding any of the available channels?!

@TOMillr
I’m not an expert in this things and just learning it. It seems that you are from Germany. Have you seen this thread: http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1576871

Have you installed TVHeadend?

I do not have a AMV tuner box here (nor a cable modem), but I guess it is very likely to me that the Plex underlying tuner-package has an issue with the scanning responses coming from the device. The standard is not very tight and I have the same issues with minisatip, hence I use TVH+tvhproxy in-between.

(see post above)

tvheadend is no solution for this, since my server is running on my nas.
second, i dont need tvheadend for scanning. scanning from within the router works like a charme. i just dont understand why plex is not finding ANYTHING.
If we could at least adding channels to plex manually (by adding the stream url and the definition what channel it is (ARD ZUDF …), we could atleast bypass this lack of function of plex.

beside: when will plex support the avm dvb-c router? its one of the most distributed cablerouters in germany and almost all cable-internet-provider distributing that router.

DVBLogic/TVMosaic has just added support for the AVM DVB-C tuners as a regular Sat2IP device. So at least it’s possible to do this…

Well, you know the options out there as there is no support for the AVM router in the DVB-Module currently (Any kind of Proxy). There is also IPTV proxies (which take a .m3u list, e.g. from your Fritz box router) out there on GitHub,… If your NAS can run docker (like my QNAP) than it is very easy to ramp up such a container and connect Plex to this one.

If TV Mosaic/DVB-Logic supports AVM DVB-C router and Fritz-repeater, then one can assume it will be supported in Plex soon as well.

From my understanding the AVM people did not comply with the ‘standard’ (DVB-C is not in the standard, so Digital Devices started modifying the structure and semantic of the SAT>IP to match DVB>C first and no everybody is aligned on this) and made, similar as in minisatip, some deviation to what is considered to be standard. Seems that DVB Logic has adapted to this now.

Let us ask @kinoCharlino on when a DVB-backend update would come to see when it makes sense to test the AVM hardware again.

Hey, i just tried at my plex with a 6490 and Unitymedia,
did you try another browser? My “Fortfahren” buttons keeps disabled too, but there is the Button on the upper right:

After selection this, selecting your provider, and using the same button again, starts the search

Hope this helps.

EDIT: okay… after the search nothing is found here… so… sorry

Yes, the Plex backend just doesn’t support the AVM tuners. DVBLogic/TVMosaic just added support for those tuners, so we know that, at least technically, it should be possible once someone looks into it…

AVM states your Client needs to Read RTSP Protocol Streams in order to receive the Live Video Stream.
Not Supported by Plex as of now.

Die App bzw. das Programm muss den Empfang eines RTP-Streams (Real-Time Transport Protocol) unterstützen.

avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-6490-cable/wissensdatenbank/publication/show/1528_Fernsehempfang-in-FRITZ-Box-einrichten/

So TV Headend + Proxy is the only option for now.
IPTV Plugin does not work as the Stream URL passes Parameters which the Plugin is unable to handle.
