I am trying to get Live TV & DVR on official Plex Docker working since days without success.
The channel search on Plex Docker finds only very few channels. I have tried several different ini files and also created my own ini based on local used channel information.
While my troubleshooting over the last days i found hundrets of people in various forums reporting similar problem with AVM FritzBox. Some get it working by modifying the ini file most other only by use of additional m3u capable xTeVe program.
I was thinking the issue could be due to PLEX or AVM FritzBox. And also the OS version of PLEX (e.g. Docker, Windows, etc.) could play a role. The reason why i am quite confident that the problem is caused by PLEX is due to following experiences:
While channel search i can see the channel search parameters on AVM FritzBox. In case existing channel is found i can see the channel name in AVM FritzBox but most of the recognized channels are later on not listed in PLEX.
I have also realized that PLEX Docker only find very few channels while PLEX Windows is finding much more but not all. PLEX server versions from docker and win are the same. Also the used ini for the channel search was the same. What’s the difference between docker and windows even if the PLEX versions are the same?
There are really so many people complaining about the same issues.
How to get Plex developer working on this issues as the Live TV & DVR with recording would be the key motivation for Plex Pass subscription. As long as i am not able to get it working like hundrets of other people Plex in general is no useful option. There are so many people especially in DACH area who own AVM Cable Router.
Would be great to get answer from Plex develpment team or anybody else with same/similar experience. Also solutions which i might not know so far are welcome. Thanks!
Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173 (Docker & Windows)
Tuner Make/Model: AVM FritzBox 6591 Cable
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?: no
Channel number/Name: almost all available channels
As channel search on windows is working but not in docker … is there any possibility to transfer the channel information from Plex windows to Plex docker? Any config file or sql query to get this done?
I could also provide wireshark trace between Plex server and DVR tuner.
If needed please let me know.
There are really quite many other people reporting about the same problem.
Example from people who are reporting same issue can be found below (unfortunately in german language).
Possible solutions:
Downgrade to much older Plex versions like e.g. 1.20.3.3437
Usage of external software like xTeVe which has m3u channel list support
Working on Windows, not on Docker, also not on Linux
@BigWheel
AVM Fritzbox is one of the most used cable tuner in DACH countries (germany, austria, swiss). Most people get it from their cable internet provider. If fritzbox is supported your potential customer basis will increase a lot. Live DVR support is still one of the key features for media player portal.
Even if AVM Fritzbox is not officially supported … it’s working with Plex Server for Windows, but not with Docker and Linux. It was working with older Docker versions but got corrupted with newer versions.
Request is just to get something working again which got broken by Plex updates some time ago. That this is possible can be seen on latest windows version. Looking forward to your answer and help.
Am quite stonished about the attitude from Plex support team to deal with such requests.
It seems you did not even read my summary otherwise you would not argue … sorry, not supported device.
I’m not arguing about anything. I did read your long demand that we fix something that we do not support. If you want that device to be supported and work properly at some point, I informed you what you should do.
Just quoting the feedback from other users from one single thread linked above.
There are quite many other threads in this and other forums with same feedback.
Because of german language from this thread i am trying to translate in english.
Translation: After downgrade to 1.20.3.3437 all channels could be found and asigned.
Translation: I am using (old) plex version 1.20.3.3437 which is working pretty good.
The only request is to get it working AGAIN.
Like it was working with older docker versions and like it is still working with windows version.
We are not working on something that we do not have any official support for. The tuner devices that we do support have profiles added by the manufacturer to work properly with Plex. And went through testing to make sure they work.
If you wish for Plex to work properly with those devices that you have I suggest you contact that manufacturer to suggest they contact us if they want their device to be able to work properly with current versions of Plex Media Server.
Quite limited scope on customer satisfaction.
It should be easy task for dev team to fix what was working before.
But … where no will there is no way.
The team does not have access to this device, which is why it’s not supported. We have no way to know why it worked before or what made it not work now.
You’re also using an unsupported channel setup (IPTV). Again, we don’t test for this so we don’t know what broke.
We do not have a way to troubleshoot what would be causing your issue. If someone can reproduce the exact same issue using a supported device and regular over-the-air signals, I’d be happy to pass that info along for investigation.
If an earlier version of PMS worked, stick to that for now. Maybe a future version will magically fix whatever the problem was.
I have the same problems as the user
mr_cg. everything worked wonderfully in the past.
not any longer longer . I have to make a detour via tvheadend and antennas (TVHProxy).
it’s really a shame that this problem is not taken care of. it worked once and it still works under Windows. not not in Docker or synology NAS.
I have provided Plex logfiles from good and bad case. Willing to provide even more if needed and requested.
The interest from the community to get it working again is HUGE.
Looking into the logs and provide some kind of technical feedback would have been the expected feedback. “Sorry, not supported” was not the expected answer.
@BigWheel In reply to your statement I have a quick question that I hope you are able to answer.
Being myself an owner of the FritzBox 6591 in question, at the beginning when I set it up for the first time (appr. 1.5 years ago), I got the unsupported device/experimental driver warning (not sure about the exact wording).
Eventually, when I set up my PMS from scratch on a new PC, this notification no longer appeared and I assumed that, by now, the FritzBox has received official support.
Any idea, why this warning is no longer being shown?
Instead of supporting only some specific tuner devices Plex should support standards like SAT>IP. The amount of cable routers with included DVB-C tuner is increasing damatically due to “fiber like” DOCSIS 3.1 (1Gbe) performance. Even lot of open source programs are supporting SAT>IP standard and Fritzbox is working here without any issues.
Hello Plex,
you can not buy any supported tuner longer at the market. In DACH AVM is the onliest and most used tuner and you ignore it. All the other tuners are out of stock or not longer produced. You are not actually informed about the market.
Best regards.
