THIS time I saw Plex start recording Marvel, Agents of SHEILD…and then just quit within about three minutes for no reason.
I had to delete the Recording entry and quickly reestablish it to capture the remainder of the program…still in progress as I write this.
The logs are attached. I hope a Plex developer can see what caused the early termination of a recording…and make Plex more reliable.
AND…it just stopped AGAIN with a transcoder error!
The logs between these two events…which occurred within mere minutes…are attached.
I tried twice to record the same program and Plex failed each time.
The third time to record the same program also failed, with a bad file that crapped out after only about 1 minute of play.
That’s three in a row…trying to record the same darn program within the same hour…
Posting logs again. Hoping three quick consecutive failures within the same hour may provide a Plex developer the info they need to make Plex more reliable…
Did you reboot the machine in between?
No time for a reboot between the minutes of recording…but that would not be a good solution if that IS a solution to this issue, because you would only know to reboot AFTER a bad recording…and then it is too late.
…If that is the only way to fix it, it should become a requirement/setting to “reset” Plex during an off hour moment, like if it resets itself and any sub processes after a maintenance operation…(Developers, if that would improve reliability, I’d take it…but that is just a bad work around for code issues…)
I’m editing the title of this post to reflect 3 failures in a row, and that the logs are attached, in a desperate attempt at getting attention from code writers. (sad, I know). Also, it’s so people don’t suspect I’m a time traveler who can create a post header describing events prior to the actual individual posts…
I’m still on the 1.9.7 release, but last night Agents of Shield stopped recording for me also (from South Carolina). Normally that channel works if the weather is clear, and the weather seemed clear last night.
The recording schedule shows a successful recording, but the actual file is only 33:31 minutes long (including a 2 minute prerecord).
Hawaii Five-O recorded fine during the same time slot.
Random thought…Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has a lot of periods in the title…
I wonder if that could screw with name handling somehow at some point in the recording/transcoding process, especially as it relates to cutting out commercials…just throwing it out there if others have issues with recording that one program.

I have half a dozen episodes that recorded fine this season. One would think it would be a regular occurrence if it’s related to the file name.
