Record only 5 minutes of game no problems shown in dvr schedule

Server Version#: 4.71.10
Player Version#:
Tuner Make/Model: HD Homerun
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?: No
Channel number/Name: NBC
no information of a problem in dvr schedule. have recorded multiple times in the past with success. at work for two days and got home excited to watch the game and yet again plex fail destroys my enthusiasm. I don’t have this problem with HD DVR. I like to use my lifetime investment in plex however so any ideas why a recording would randomly quit after 5 minutes despite being scheduled for 3 hours on a drive with plenty of space?

Having a similar issue. Plex is only recording part of the shows. WinTV’s DVR willrecord all of it, so I know it is not a signal issue.

Mee Too! Trying to record some sports stuff, but it only records 15 mins of a 3 hour game. SUPER MAD about waiting the whole long weekend to see the game only to come home to 1/12th of it. 2 weeks in a row!!! Also, If I’m watching the recording Live, and it errors out… I can’t tell it to resume the recording or start a NEW recording of the same airing. Once a DVR recording dies, that whole block of time is scorched Earth. It still streams the live content, but no way to record it, even with a full server reboot.
I doubt these 2 issues are related, and I don’t mean to derail the conversation. I’ll try to start a new thread with my 2nd issue.

The most likely/logical explanation is that Plex is not recovering properly from the occasional corrupt packets received from the tuner when you don’t have a perfect signal. Plex finds a random timestamp as it tries to decode the corrupt packet and if that timestamp is beyond the time for the dvr program, it stops recording because Plex concludes that the program is done. I’ve seen this talked about in the past and maybe it’s happening again. I don’t really understand why Plex would have this problem though since I’ve never used other DVR software that randomly stops recording like this. But on the other hand, time has shown that Plex’s quality control is for crap.

Plex DVR has had this problem since the very beginning.

From what I have been able to tell, Plex is the only DVR system that has this problem and they are also the only one that doesn’t save the raw broadcast stream to a single file as it comes in. Instead they break it up into thousands of tiny files every few seconds and then piece them all back together at the end of the recording.

Something about that process must be making Plex significantly more unreliable than all the other DVRs I’ve tested including Windows Media Center, NextPVR, Emby, and Channels DVR (the one I’m currently using since Plex DVR can’t be trusted).

Pretty irritating that they haven’t been able to fix it in four years.
