Before the Plex-DVR-age I always used the setting “subtitle mode” → “show with foreign audio” which just worked great with movies and series.
But with this setting DVR streams and recordings of a lot of private TV channels in Germany (like RTL or SAT.1) then don’t show the actual video but then are completly overlayed with this annoying “Teletext” - some kind of weird form of fast switching “information” pages designed in the 1980s which are obviously misintepreted as necessary subtitles by Plex.
The workaround to set the “subtitle mode” to “manually selected” helps in this case - the “Teletext” bulls* disappears. But then all essential subtitles in movies and series won’t - of course - show up automatically any longer. Before starting any media I always have to manually check if there is a forced subtitle in a movie/show that I need to understand the context. This is really annoying and when using the “continue watching” function it is literally a show stopper when the aliens in Star Trek Discovery start babbling - with my Klingon not being that adequate ;D
Would it be possible to implement a separate “subtitle mode DVR” or just lease this setting off for DVR streams/recordings completly? Because in the last 30 years I actually never needed this function when watching television - as neccessary subtitles are always hardcoded respectively burned-in - for a good reason.
Plex-Team, please help me out here!
… Because my Klingon won’t improve that much soon (I guess) and every episode I manually have to adjust the subtitle setting just forces me one step closer to disabling the DVR-function completly - which actually has become one of my favorite functions on Apple TV.
