Well I experimented and found the following:
After it autodetected, it found my pi was at ip 192.168.0.111 and the port was 3005. After I changed the EventServer port to 9778 the remote began working for to navigate (i.e.- up, down, back) when I was using yatse.
I tried to replicate this in the official xbmc remote and failed. (Perhaps I need to reset and try again.)
However I am not able to see a listing of tv shows or movies in either app. It merely says "No Media".
Are you guys able to get more functionality than this? I think this would solve modd1uk's problem if so.

Edit: Just to clarify I mean the ability to see a listing of movies in the app and click one of the movies and have it start on rasplex. Is this possible outside of the local network to the plex server?
Did you ever find a fix for this? I just swapped over to Rasplex and your suggestion to port 9778 helped me get the remote to work, however as you stated the listings aren't showing in the app. Would love to know if you found a solution. Thanks.
