1.18.7 crashes on macOS

[topic moved from thread about 1.18.6 on windows - mod]

+1 1.18.7.2415 (PlessPass) does not work on MacOS… server is unreachable until I force quit Plex activities and start up again. Then crashes again in few hours and is unreachable… horrible update!

1.18.7.2434 still crashes on me
MacOS 10.13.6

Very frustrating since everyone I referred to Plex is asking me why and I have no idea myself?! These last few updates remind me of the unstable 2010/2011 Plex server, someone really screwed up…

You’ll need to post logs.

Anyone who is having issues with the latest beta releases, rollback to the latest stable public release and it works as it should. Latest beta is pure garbage for stability…

I’ve uploaded logs on this post: Plex Media Server update 1.18.7.2438 hanging. However do understand it’s not possible to get logs through the usual procedure mentioned (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/) unless the server can be recovered. Mine would only respond until after numerous force restarts through Activity Monitor in macOS.

These issue are persisting on the stable release which clearly were not fixed before being released (Plex Media Server). @gbooker02

My server has been working flawlessly on the stable version. Beta versions however, does not work for me.

There must be something unique in your server setup, stay were you are until someone can sort it out is my advice.

As i have stated the Beta have been solid for me on Catalina

It’ll be interesting if it stays up while refreshing metadata on a music library. That’s when mine crashed.

Just wanted to add that if you’re having issues getting logs the usual way, because the server is not responding, there’s other easy ways to do it on macOS.

  1. Use the Console App select the PMS log (From Log Reports on the sidebar) then left click and Reveal in Finder this should lead you to the dir all PMS logs are.

  2. Navigate directly to the default path to logs: ~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server

@odoylerules can you please upload you’re logs to? Or look in the other thread to check if you’re issue is related (hint: if you use iTunes its likely it is)?

This is happening to me also…

Where do I get a download of an oder version ??

Logs…
Archive.zip (719.0 KB)

Although never used, the iTunes plugin was enabled on my server. I have disabled it and will update to the latest beta again and report back if it happens again…

Update: the beta server appears to be stable now

On macOS older versions are kept here: ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Updates

Similar for windows (only it would use windows “local app data folder”.

Alternatively you can use the link to the previous version to download it https://artifacts.plex.tv/plex-media-server-stable/1.18.6.2368-97add474d/macos/PlexMediaServer-1.18.6.2368-97add474d-x86_64.zip

Interesting find as I do not use the iTunes plugin and 1.18.7.2438 has not faulted. I wonder as iTunes is no longer with Apple Music, Tv, Podcasts are replacements as of Catalina.

Having the same issue on latest stable release. Just started last night.

Its not on Catalina but this issue is in PMS not the OS (even windows users experience the same) most where actually using libraries from itunes!

@odoylerules so to be clear you don’t use iTunes at all and were still facing the issue but turning this off fixes it:

Thanks for the confirmation, I stopped using the plugin many updates ago, hence having no issues.

Yes it is the same issue following an error when loading iTunes media

I do use iTunes just not in Plex. Yes, that setting was enabled, so I disabled it and it worked. Years ago I added the iTunes Channel to my PMS. I thought I removed it a long time ago, guess not. I have a iTunes Match Subscription so although my iTunes library shows music available, the files are not stored locally. I’m on MacOS 10.13.6 so the new Apple Music app does not apply. The true test will be if PMS works tomorrow, so far so good on 1.18.7.2438. Thanks for keeping on it!

This started happening to my Plex Server today, version 1.18.7.2438 running on Mac OS 10.14.6. I have disabled the iTunes plugin (FWIW, that feature has never worked, always times out, I assumed it was because my iTunes library is close to 400GB) and so far so good. Crossing fingers that it remains up. Thanks everyone
