Plexht Freezes when play is pressed

Hi,

I am using plexhometheater on ubuntu 14.04, everything was working well until today.

Now, whenever I try to play something plexht freezes and remains stuck.

I'll attach a log file; they are usually truncated with the following last line:

DEBUG: Suspended the Sink

Thank you for the support,

manovel

Hello,

I've been experiencing the same issue today. I came home, opened PHT and it froze when I clicked on play. I checked for updates, there was one so I updated, but still the same. Uninstalled, manually deleted all PHT files everywhere, reinstalled, PHT still freezing. I can play files from the web and Chrome app on the same computer, on my Android phone, on PHT on my Windows machine ... So it seems the problem lies with PHT for Linux. Ubuntu Gnome 14.10, 64bit.

Yes, by me it is the same. I updated plexht and now it is happening every time I hit play. It happens also when quit is selected, plexht just freezes there.

I can also play the video from web or mobile apps.

Hello,

I have the exact same problem with the exact same degub output.

Selecting play simply freezes the app. I have reproduced this 100% in both 14.04 and 14.10, both unity and gnome desktop, both with and without intel open source drivers.

One other thing I've noticed, might be related: I also get some screen flicker when navigating the menus. I have disabled all hardware related options under advanced video and vsync is also off, but both issues remain.

Specs:

lenovo g500 i3110m cpu, ubuntu 14.04 LTS, media server configured on another lan computer.

I have disabled pulse audio by uncommenting the plexhometeater.sh option.

The log simply stops at DEBUG: Suspended the Sink

Last week on an older install (before the updates), I rember it working very well. So i suspect one of the newer updates broke it.

I'm using the latest updates on ubuntu, kernel: 3.13.0-43-generic.

+1 here. But without disabling Pulseaudio.

I JUST got done doing a full re-install of one of my HTPC machines with Ubuntu 14.01 and this is now the case.  On my other machine, which hasn't been updated, everything seems to work just fine (also an Ubuntu 14.04 machine, but with an NVidia card).  Didn't remove PulseAudio, just uncommented the 'export AE_ENGINE=SOFT' line in plexhometheater.sh, which worked in the past.

I too am currently experiencing this issue.

Yeah same here, i can play on all devices but my Linux HT.

Hang when trying to play film on last 3 ppa releases (regression to version 1.3.1 problem):-

plexhometheater_1.3.3.427-201412151505-ubuntu68~ubuntu14.04.1_amd64.deb

plexhometheater_1.3.3.428-201412161152-ubuntu69~ubuntu14.04.1_amd64.deb
plexhometheater_1.3.4.432-201412180738-ubuntu76~ubuntu14.04.1_amd64.deb

Kubuntu 14.04.1 64 bit

Nvidia drivers on GTX750ti beta drivers of 346.22

& generic intel os drivers for HD4600

on 2 otherwise near identical i5 machines.

Prior to the log generation I moved my pht settings aside with
mv .plexht/ .plexht-old
Started pht and activated the debug log and exited.
Then started pht again and attempted to play a film.

Then switched to tty console and kill -SIGHUP

If anyone else is unsure of how to generate a debug log see:-

https://support.plex...ex-Home-Theater

Log doesn't seem that useful though as it just ends with the following line and little else clue wise:-

DEBUG: Loading: /opt/plexhometheater/bin/system/players/dvdplayer/avformat-53-x86_64-linux.so

Attaching head and tail of log when hang occurs:-

N.B. I was able to mostly cut - paste this report from my Updating PHT to 1.3.1 broke PHT entirely - Plex Home Theater for Linux - Plex Forums

post as the symptoms and ending line in log are the same.

The difference is that I could -SIGHUP the plexhometheater and didn't need -9 like before.

last know working version from ppa = plexhometheater_1.3.2.417-201412021047-ubuntu65~ubuntu14.04.1_amd64.deb

Let me know if there is anything else I can provide to help with this.

We need really to have some kind of "does it play any movies" check on the ppa packages prior to publishing.

These 4 released builds (1.3.1, 1.3.3 x 2, 1.3.4 were all very obviously broken in a perfectly reproducible form in a core function area; playing any film.  Note that this seems only have been the case with the linux clients.  Easy for me to say of course.

Same thing happens to me, worked a couple of weeks ago and a recent update borked it.  I have an Nvidia card.

+1 here

I am also having this problem. It freezes when I try to play video, play music, or view pictures. Interestingly enough, it launches the test patterns just fine. I tried unchecking hardware accelerations, but the results were the same. I reverted to an older installation (separate hard drive, fortunately) until this is fixed or somebody posts and older version that works.

As has been posted elsewhere, I was able to fix this by downloading an older build from:

https://launchpad.net/~plexapp/+archive/ubuntu/plexht/+builds?build_text=&build_state=built

PhillipG posted that version 1.3.2.417 worked, so I found the correct package of that version for my setup (ubuntu 14.10 amd64) and:

downloaded the .deb package manually from the link above

sudo apt-get remove --purge plexhometheater

sudo dpkg -i

and things are working again

PhillipG: Thank you, I have a working PHT back (after downgrade).

Thank you. This worked perfectly for me. I browsed the PPA before posting, but I could not find old builds. Thanks for the link.

Any idea on what is causing this issue? I'm experiencing the same problem

Thank you,

downgrading solved the issue for me as well!

Just updated to 1.3.5.431(Ubuntu 14.04). It seems all is working fine again :D.

I can confirm on Mint that 1.3.5.431 works again.
