1 Plex Server from 2 different machines on same network?

Server Version#: 1.40.1.8227

Hello, I believe I have a unique question as I cannot find the appropriate answer… I am assuming it may not be possible (but hoping someone may have an answer to get it to work).

First of all my setup, I have an QNAP NAS storing all my media (the NAS also has the Plex Media Server app downloaded), plus I have a PC which I am currently running the Plex Media Server on as its got overkill hardware to support seamless transcoding (Ryzen Threadripper and RTX 3090). Currently when my PC is turned off, I cannot access the server.

My question is, when my computer is on, I am happy to run Plex Media Server through it as the number one option to provide the best support for those watching. BUT when I turn the computer off, (the NAS is still running 24/7) I would like the NAS to take over the server automatically so other people can still watch both remotely and locally. Is this possible???

2 different computers (1 NAS and 1 PC) running the same server (same login) from the media on the NAS, but the PC takes priority as the server for transcoding when turned on.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Kevin.

Automatically is not possible.
Plex has no support for load balancing across several machines.

It would be strictly manually picking the items from the desired Plex server to watch.

The only thing that would help your use case is the automatic synchronization of watched state between the servers. https://support.plex.tv/articles/sync-watch-state-and-ratings/
