Why might this be happening? The only thing I know is that this video is in 1080i format, I have searched on Google and I see that there are more people with the same problem but no one gives a solution.
What I have been able to find out is that it only happens to me with 1080i videos (interlaced), in original quality and from browser (Chrome on PC and Safari from iOS I have tried), instead if I put convert automatically to make transcoding, it works fine.
In the Plex PC and mobile apps it works fine without transcoding.
Browser might not support the codec but Plex should then transcode. I am also seeing an issue where some live tv channels are working fine on Plex app (iOS) but not in Chrome.
Try dragging the original file into your browser and see what happens. If it plays, this might be a Plex issue. If it does the same thing, then it’s an issue with the playback engine in the browser. If it wants to download the file, then the format is unsupported. Plex should transcode. If it’s a Plex issue, reproduce the error and provide both the player and server logs and i can take a look.
Plex by default does not transcode it, it directly plays it in original quality but it is shown as I said in the video I shared.
I have done what you said by dragging the file to the browser and it proceeds to download.
As I mentioned, if I set it in the Plex player to “Convert Automatically”, it plays fine, although the idea would be to not transcode this type of file.
One solution I am taking is to convert the videos to 1080p x265 format, there they work perfect in original quality, although it is taking me time because there are many files, but it saves transcoding.
Ok. Sounds like plex is falsely detecting that your browser supports the file so it’s not initially transcoding. If you can get logs, i can look to see if it’s Plex web or pms getting this wrong.
Yes, transcoded it works without problem, although in my case it has to be set manually and it is not a solution either since I try to use transcoding as little as possible.
