1080i non compatible

Not compatible with 1080i android and iphone and ps4 lag

1080i only lives while it’s in the air - once it lands it’s just 1080p interlaced, but the problem is likely the video stream is MPEG-2 and that is incompatible with your devices requiring a transcode from Plex and your server is unable to process that file fast enough to keep up - causing lag/buffering.

Your options include, but are not limited to:
Encoding those files to a compatible format (that can Direct Play) before Plex has a chance to transcode them or buying a more powerful server box.

That’s slightly incorrect. The p stands for ‘progressive’. There is no ‘progressive interlaced’ video.
You can have 1080i video files. For instance if you record it off the air.
Some BluRay Discs also contain 1080i video (particularly BBC documentaries and other content that was originally produced for TV.)

But your assessment about the OP’s issue is likely correct.

I have a 1080i files and when I use the web player in original the video lag but if I transcode it works perfectly :frowning:

I recreated your issue.
When you play 1080i files in H.264 codec in Chrome, the server sends the video stream unchanged to the browser (Direct Stream).
In the browser, the refresh rate now drops to half or even less of the regular rate.

I will file an error report.

Uhhhh… maybe in your part of town, but here in this part that p is pixels.
Also - everything I have will gleefully tell me my 1080P (recorded/interlaced/comb artifacted to high heaven) material is 1080p, not saying a thing about it being 1080i. Plex reports it as 1080p - interlaced out the ying and the yang. Filebot calls it 1080p - interlaced out the bung-hole.

It could be a regional thing, but us toothless rednecks here in WV call 1080i 1080p after it lands then we decomb it with Handbrake so it don’t look like @ss.

But let’s not split hairs, it ain’t the i or the p causing the problem it’s probably the MPEG-2 - and Handbrake can take care of all of that in one go. It is interesting and important to note removing those 'i’s from that 1080p recording will add a couple hours to a Handbrake job on a Fischer Price Computer Box… so keep that in mind, but once that’s done it won’t buffer during playback.

That’s interesting about the Chrome malfunction. The OP’s issue with Android/IPhone/PS4 is still probably an MPEG-2 issue and a slow transcoding job - at least that’s my guess.

Also - if it is a recorded program causing all the hate in the Plexiverse, MCEBuddy can monitor that Recorded TV folder, pick up new recordings, convert those recordings to compatible formats while decombing them, name and structure them perfectly for Plex and run them into your libraries automatically and you’ll never even see them in your recently added list until they’re ready to go:
