Plex on ps3 used to not playback movies etc… in 1080p (not talking about the plex OSD/menu here which I know is limited to 720p) has this been updated and fixed now?
No, Plex from the EU PSN store still runs at 720p. Plex from the US PSN runs at 1080p, although like the EU it’s a 720p interface running at 1080p.
I’ve just checked in with the developers. This is known and is slated to be fixed in an upcoming update. Not sure which update it will land in - so all I can say is keep an eye on it.
Ok thanks for the comments, hopefully they will be an update for EU soon.
Any update on a release for EU which fixes this?
the PS3 Plex App is still stuck at 720p for the Australian market too
Yes Europe still 720p, version is 2.5.1. Any date on a fix for this? I read another threat that was about a year old so this is going on for quite some time now.
Wow this is getting a bit crazy that this still isn’t fixed - any update on what’s causing the issue. There certainly seems to be enough demand for this. Is it sony causing the issue or just lack of resources for plex?
Same question. Why the 720P limitation, Sony?
Why would it be a Sony limitation? DLNA video can be streamed at 1080p, as well as Netflix and Hulu.
@smeep it actually is a Sony limitation. The codec they give Plex access too maxes at 720p on PS3.
h264 720p Main 4.0
@AndrewD2 Oh wow, I didn’t realize. I guess PS3-native apps are limited to 720p, but DLNA isn’t. Thanks for setting it straight!
Some PS3 apps work at 1080, some do not. Plex (from the eu store) does not, YouTube is another one that was stuck on 720 last time I checked.
That’s just the way it is, unless you use the workaround in my link above.
@ptrjay I think it can, but that still doesn’t change it’s what Sony gave PLEX to work with. They might have given Netflix, a much larger company, full access.
I asked on their Twitter and they confirmed that it’s 720p for the European version of Plex. I have both installed to test but they both give options to play 1080p content at their original quality for some reason. I checked an episode of Gotham using both apps at the ‘Original’ option at 1080p and the picture quality seem pretty much the same - It’s only when actually changing it to 720p where there’s a big difference.
I did notice when using the EU app that the TV actually shows it being at 720p though.
