rpi2 with 0.5.1; I have calibrated to fit the screen and the menus etc all display fine (fitting the screen). However, when I play a movie (one that is supposed to fill the screen completely) there are still black bars top and bottom, albeit small ones; these bars are not in the original movie. Any ideas on what I can do?
From PlexWeb, find the movie you are seeing that has the back borders and click Info. In the Video section, what does it list for width and height?

- Height 1080
- Level 4.1
- Profile high
- Ref Frames 4
- Scan Type progressive
- Stream Identifier 1
- Width 1920
Thats strange. Can you click View XML and post.

That's usually a browser problem. I had that once in Safari. Can you try a different browser?

Not conclusive.
It could still be a 'Scope' movie with black bars encoded in the picture.
How does this one look when played in a desktop video player in windowed mode? With or without bars?
Yep, a safari issue:

I put the movie into iTunes and it plays without the top and bottom black bars.

I put the movie into iTunes and played on the apple TV and it plays without the top and bottom black bars. So the pi2 with rasplex is doing something odd.

It definitely should not be showing black bars. The aspect ratio is correct. You can try running the Plex screen calibration again to see if it helps. Do all 1920x1080 movies have this small black bar or just this one movie?

still not conclusive, because your tv or the apple TV could have a setting active to 'zoom in' into the picture and thus getting rid of the black bars. Hence I said 'desktop player'. Try VLC for instance.
After a hard reset it all looks okay. Apple TV was doing some sort of zoom of which I was not aware. I now have the tiniest gaps left and right with rasplex but they are so small as not to notice when watching movie. They sounds is pants (ac3)but I believe this will be addressed. A fair bit of stuttering with GoT intro but I think my powerlines are not up to it. That’s so much for prompt and helpful remarks.
