10gb network (how to use)

My plex server has two on board 10gb ports (X99 WS-E/10G) in addition to two normal 1gb ports.

My question is how can I utilize this for purposes of streaming media? I’m fairly computer literate but networking is one of my weaker areas.

These ports are plugged into a 1gb ASUS router configured as an access point which is plugged into the Cat5e wiring in my house eventually going into my OnQ panel router an Asus AC5300 which controls all my router/APs in the house.

My internet connection is fiber 1gb up/down.

The slowest part of all this are my spindle green disks.

Is it not possible to utilize the 10gb ports? What if I have 4-5 folks direct playing/streaming 1080p movies? Still limited to that pesky Cat5e speed?

All help is appreciated.

Unless you have a 10GbE switch those ports won’t do you any good.

On a standard gigabit Ethernet network I have sent eight 12MB data streams and recorded them in another location, all while normal network traffic is going on, without even making a dent in the throughput. You aren’t going to have any issues with users streaming media on your network.
