I just purchased the x10 and waiting to pick it up later this week. Has anyone tried to connect it to10GbE storage and run plex from the router?
I don’t think anyone has done it yet (at least I haven’t seen any performance results) but I know there is bunch of people here interested how this 500USD monster performs with Plex (http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/241817/nighthawk-x10-industrys-first-home-router-with-plex-media-server and https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/241543/netgear-router-plex-server/)
Err…10GbE storage on 1Gbps connections? What am I missing?
…that thing costs more than a nighthawk r7000 with a chromebox sitting on top of it.
You’re going to be lucky if Netgear keeps the PMS app updated on this.
so far with the external storage connected the performance is fine. It takes a minute to load but after it seamlessly streams. I am finding that the metadata has to be updated manually so far with the movies I’ve transferred. The other thing to consider that it take a long time to transfer new movies to the USB. I’d like to try a NAS that supports 10GbE but looking in the market they are extremely expensive. Before investing I’d like to see some feedback from the community.

It’s to make the most of that sick 2-port LAG/etherchannel that nobody going to use.
I’d venture a guess and say that the 10GbE port on that machine won’t get you anything, especially when it comes to running Plex on that box.
It is just an attempt to be the first SoHo router to offer a 10GbE port.
Sure, in theory you’d need a faster than 1GbE connection to deliver the data fast enough so the router can transmit them over its multiple WiFi antennas at full speed. But this is only achievable under very few, very specially optimized conditions.
And I’m pretty sure not while the box is also serving out media files with Plex.

Not to mention the fact that wireless is half-duplex.
