12 Invalid TheTVDB IDs

I used TheTVDB API to validate my collection and compared it to the Plex database. There were 12 episodes in Plex that had the wrong TheTVDB ID associated with them. Not bad considering the size of my collection. Can somebody fix the Plex central database?

Thanks

Could they be coming from external ids on the episodes within tmdb ?

I’m away from my PC atm but can check later if needed.

Yes, appears so. I’m fixing what I can.

I ran into issues unsetting the tvdb ids on the New Girl episodes and stopped there. Maybe you can have better luck than me.

Thanks. I forgot that you guys use TMDB to look up the ID for the TVDB. I logged in to TMDB and fixed the Two and a Half Men episode. I’ll take care of the rest.

Out of curiosity, how did you gather both lists of episode ids so you could compare ?

I wrote code that retrieves all season and episode data from TheTVDB using their API. I use that tool to keep my collection (personal database) current with updates. I also built a tool that pulls in all the data from the Plex SQLite DB. The tool matches the two datasets on the TVDB ID and then compares file path, sizes, etc. for any inaccuracies. It’s all automated. I did this a few years ago when I noticed some shows were out of order in Plex.

It also catches the handful of movies that are matched incorrectly by the Plex Media Scanner. The Plex scanner is awesome and much quicker now but still incorrectly matches a small percentage of movies.

Thanks. This is most likely for another topic but I’m coming at it from a different angle.

This Plex Episodes changing from played to unplayed due to online metadata source change is a real annoyance for me and happens at least a couple of times a year. I’d love to have some automated way to check for it rather than just noticing the watched status for an episode (or group of episodes) has changed. The export compare you done got me thinking …

Anyhow, I’ll not go on as this topic looks to be sorted, or at least on the way to being sorted

Thanks. Same here. I fixed all the other ones without any issues. The New Girl one is not saving. It shows in the history that you tried to save the wrong number to both episodes (e.g. 47211581 instead of 4721158). It also doesn’t show that you first cleared out one episode id before swapping them (like it does on the other ones that were fixed). Also, you fixed Cosmos correctly, but both Mike & Molly and Mom had either the preceding or next episodes’s TVDB ID blank. I fixed them.

I also tried to edit them but it failed. Unfortunately, this has come up before on tmdb, see TVDB IDs will not save for various S05 episodes! - Discuss Regular Show — The Movie Database (TMDB) as an example which I was involved in.

The solution at the time and I quote from that thread …

The only solution we moderators came up so far is “brutal” replace & deletion. So far it works - but we loose all episode ratings.

So, best to leave those episodes alone and let the problem report that @drzoidberg33 filed get processed by the moderators in their own time.

Sounds good. I just noticed that it was you in the change log on TMDB and not drzoidberg33. I don’t even see his attempt in the log. I guess Plex employees have a back door in. I’ll definitely just let it play out and move on. Thanks for helping out and sorry for the hassle.
