1520+ Transcode Speed

Server Version#: DSM7
Player Version#: 1.23.5.4862

Greetings Plex Friends.

Seeking some clarity while I try and get my plex server up and running.

  • I tried doing some streaming of higher quality videos and was hit with some intense buffering.
  • I ran some verbose logging and investigated and noted I was only getting 0.3 transcode speed
  • Did some additional digging and heard tale of some issue with the (and this is where things get cloudy for me) - Drivers? For my Celeron J4125
  • Thank you to some kind folks on the reddit. I putty’d into my machine and added the VaapiDriver=“i965” line to my preferences xml.

This left an improvement. I am transcoding at 1.3x now - however - I still cant reliably stream HD content.

  • at the moment I am trying to “pre optimize” a video file (as I understand this could help when watching on tv?)
  • it maxes out at 1.3x, waving up and down from 0.3x.

My resource monitor on DSM shows my CPU is barely even trying. I have tried adjusting the settings to “make my cpu bleed” etc.

I even completely uninstalled my server and reinstalled with the latest PMS to no avail.

Would really appreciate some direction - Im not well versed in this area but hopefully I can follow along.

PS. Would moving to docker solve this? I am not sure if docker can “talk” to the hardware better than the PMS file directly? again unsure and just asking.

Edit:

I have found

But I am not sure what I’m really looking at. I dont see a fix on here, more of a messy ticket of sorts.

Many thanks.

hey! just about to head out the door but I wanted to say thank you for the reply!

I will do some playing around this afternoon hopefully and pass the logs over for review! its very appreciated.

Re the VaapiDriver. It does appear to make a huge difference, is it worth disabling it and doing a log and sending over?

have a great day
