I installed the app update on my Xbox One yesterday. I now have my choice of users and access to my cloud sync files.
However, I no longer have access to my local plex server (iMac). In the drop down list (which includes the cloud sync) it reports that iMac is offline.
Steps I have taken:
Restarting plex app
Restarting plex server
Restarting Xbox One
Restarting iMac
Signing out of plex app and reconnecting with 4 character pin
None of this works as it is still reporting that iMac is offline.
iMac is not offline - I have no problem streaming to my PS4 or iOS devices.
By way of update - I have also uninstalled the Xbox One app and reinstalled it, but it still reports that the iMac is offline.
If I attempt to switch to another (non-primary) user I receive the error message - server is unavailable.
Interestingly, if I look under the Plex Server Devices tab, I can see the Xbox One and an indication that there has been a connection more recently than the last update (i.e. some form of communication is taking place).
Curious, what is your network setup like? Is your server on the same subnet as your Xbox One? Do you have your network set up in any funky way? VPN? If you go to plex.tv/api/resources can you visit the remote IP:PORT address reported for your server from your Xbox One?
Firstly, as far as I am aware there is nothing funky about my network set up and both the server and the Xbox One are on the same subnet. Certainly no VPN involved.
However, whilst trying to find my Plex Token, I attempted to access Plex through the web app, on the same iMac as the server, and again it indicated that the iMac server was not available (but Cloud sync was). But, Plex Media Player works fine on that iMac!
… looks like it might be a network issue. I have just connected my iMac and Xbox One to my iPhone hotspot and, low and behold, the iMac server reappears in the Plex app. However, I have not altered my network setup and it was working fine until the update yesterday and, as I said, it is working fine on my PS4 and iOS devices.
I have just done a factory restore on my router in case, but that has not solved the problem.
It does sound like a network issue from your description of the behaviour of the apps and server. You should be able to get your access token using this guide. Check what the resources page is reporting your server IP as and see if you can connect to that remote address from your troubled devices. Network issues are hard for us to diagnose remotely unfortunately.
I’ve found my Token and gone to the api/resources page as per the above link (substituting my own Token), but rather than displaying a page of XML code, I just get a blank page!
I have tethered my MacBook Air to my iPhone (thereby circumventing my home network and ISP) but kept my iMac (and therefore the Plex server) connected to my home network.
Results:
If I log onto the Plex Web app on the MacBook Air, then I can access my iMac library. It is available remotely. However, if I perform the same exercise on my iMac, then the server is not available.
The same is true if I tether the Xbox One to the iPhone (but leave the iMac on the home network) - I can then access the iMac server from the Xbox One. But if the Xbox One is logged on to the home network I cannot.
As well as potentially being a router problem could it be an ISP problem?
sorry should have made clear, that if the iMac is connected to the home network and I try to access the library, on the iMac, whilst still connected to the home network, then it is not available.
Have managed to “solve” the problem - the new app had disabled the ability to have unsecured connection to the server locally. I have enabled this and now have access to the server again. However, I am certain that it was not an insecure connection before.
