Hi There i have 2x servers Both have 2x 4core Zeons in them and both with separate 100mpbs Internet feeds.
Ive Directly Connected the second Nic on each to the other, setup Static IPs both servers are on Ubuntu 14.04
One of the machines has 5 HDDs in it which hosts my Library, i would like the second machine to share the Library from the First, on Server 2 i mounted /mnt/ from server1 as a Mounted FTP Folder, i then setup plex on the second server, and added the mounted ftp folder.
The Second server has now been scanning for 48 hours (library isn’t that big) im guessing this isnt ideal FTP may be a little slow for this.
is there a better way to set this up bar getting a bunch new drive for the second server?
This will let your second server help the first with transcoding…
Thanks, i got that setup and working! well i assume working i can see traffic on the link and plex user using CPU on the slave! though i fear ive created a bottleneck with the Gig link.
may need to see if i can set them up to load balence.
Do you know how plex responds to load balancing on the router Running Utangled as my firewall with 2 internet connections both 100meg each instead of dedicating them to each machine i may try load balence them
No, sorry I haven’t set up the distributed transcoding yet. I came across it a couple weeks ago, so when I saw your question, I thought it would be something you’d want. But I’m not sure how the load balancing works.

Thanks for pointing me there, it really works surprisingly well, thought the setup is a little time consuming and you break your trans-coder for about half of that
