I am running a dedicated network for my Plex serer with one PC running PHT and 2 PS4’s running the Plex app. I have found that we often have to wait from 5 minutes to over 20 minutes for Plex to launch and connect on the PS4 console.
The app seems to time out then try again before popping up with a connection error.
Today, I changed my password to my Plex Pass account and found that the PS4 apps would not connect or time out after more than 20 minutes. We rebooted the server, logged in with the new password, claimed the server, and launched the PHT with minimal issues. The PS4 apps sat trying to connect. We closed the apps and restarted the PS4 several times over the past couple of hours with no success.
Our internet access is via satellite with a pathetic 20 - 60 Kb/s throughput. Pair this with a 1800 ms latency.
Does Plex require a fast connection? Is there any way to get rid of this infuriating slow behavior?
New update to the PS4 app released today. Seems to be faster now. Wish I knew what was causing the delay in the first place. Seems that if there is poor internet connections, the system is very difficult to use.
That’s really strange. so you see the plex logo/splash screen or is the app doing something else?
I had the same issue (PS4 Plex App needing about 5 minutes to boot up and a lot of lag). Turned off “secure connection” (HTTPS) and the PS4 Plex App now boots up almost instantly.
Would try it out!
Since I’m using Plex in a local network, I don’t mind not being able to use HTTPS.
Disabling HTTPS on the Server solved the PS4 Plex Login crash for me too
Thanks for the tips…Disabling HTTPS secure connection make my PS4 start up and load movie faster.

When HTTPS is turned on:
When you start the PS4 app it takes about 1-2 minutes to get to the login screen, then the icons of the users slooooowly show up one after the other. During this time you cannot move the “cursor”, something seems to be loading in the background. So you wait a long time.
When you finally can choose the user and you enter the server, the “cursor/highlight” lags a lot. You press right and it takes about 5 seconds to make the change. I also often get an error and have to go back to “home”
When HTTPS is turned off:
The Login Screen appears after about 5 seconds and there is NO lag at all. I do not get any connection errors either.
I have a MacMini i5 and an external 4TB HD, everything is wired.
You should implement following option on the Server: “Turn off HTTPS for PS4 app and turn on for every other app”.
Most will use the PS4 in a local network so it should not be a security issue.
